Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Given this was supposed to be done in May/June I think they have been fair. I serviced it ay another dealership service centre.. meh not going to lose sleep over it.. just nuisance value

Firstly I recieved a letter today from VW today explaining they had deregistered my Warranty protection because they have no record of my numberplate ( which I have changed for Euro plates ) having been serviced in the required time as per the warranty compliance. I have had it serviced at VW but not the one the dealer recommends but one that is closer and with different plates
interesting. So if you service it at a non VW dealer you get deregistered as well?

      • No you maintain your Manufacturers 3 year / unlimited klms warranty but you lose the Dealership complimentary extended warranty. This is there to keep you spending money with their associated service centres

Oh. Does everyone get a complimentary extended warranty? Don't recall this (but wasn't listening too hard given the anticipation of getting into the car!)

Well this was my problem.., I didn't know this ( like yourself was just wanting the goddamn car after 9 months wait) which is what kick started my post .. only after I rang them up to ask did I found out I actually had this ??? go figure

Probably a tip for anyone else to check

            • This is all a bit strange and in a sense anti competitive however it could all just be in the wording. I guess if its only the extended non VW warranty the you specifically signed up too then maybe they can actually do this. Normally any suggestion of things like removing/voiding warranty could result in a big slap on the wrist for the dealer that suggested it. As long as the workshop uses the correct parts where required and the service procedure followed everything is fine, its been this way for an awfully long time now.

                • Most are modded these days and they're pretty damn quick and to a point before you ditch turbos cams and internals they're cheap to set up too. I wouldn't want to be in one in an accident though not good at all. You'll always have it on the gear changes and make up for some of the power deficiency there.
I keep missing out on any runs with anything half decent, I just don't drive the car enough it would seem.

                    • G'day Chris, thanks for the welcome mate

No longer have my 6. Traded it for a WRX about 12 months ago. I like the power of the WRX, however I have just had the opportunity to step up to a Golf R for an attractive price, so put down a deposit last week. It will be a Week 36 (mid September) production, so MY13 but 2012 build. Was hard to get a firm answer from a dealer re: whether Oz will get any 2013 built cars, so settled for a 2012.

I considered waiting for MK VII R, but word is 2014 release at the earliest, and I don't want to wait that long. Im an impatient bugger.

Very much looking forward to the R

Only advice I can give you is I am very happy with my R after almost 2 years and don't regret the move from the MPS. Though if a MK VII R is not too far away then maybe this would be tempting enough to wait?? Dilemnas, all the best mate.

Agree though, had a dyno run out at St Marys, was an interesting drive out there and back ....

                          • Saw a Golf R on CarSales (Melbourne) for $36k (76,000kms). I'd be a lot more tempted if it wasn't a boring grey colour.

There's also a nicer black one with RNS510 for $42k with unsightly roof racks (can they be taken off?).
Some say he was the Stig... all we know is that he drives a VW Transporter.

The RB26DETT in the GTR (R32-R34) is a beast of an engine, even stock, but as you say, the unmodified Skyline is just a myth these days. A mate of mine's gone down the larger turbos/3.0 block/forged internals path with his R32; there's tons of lag down low to the point where an R would be all over it off-boost or off the line if the GTR wasn't being launched hard, but once this thing comes on strong you feel like you're being pushed into next week. Proper supercars would struggle to stay with it in a straight line.
