Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • For the undercar, sacrificial, scrapy thing - why not buy some nylon chopping boards & cut them to suit? cheap, self lubricating, easy to shape, consistant colour through the product so when they get scratched they don't look too crappy.

Why would they be running a test mule for the Mk6 R cab when they are already testing the Mk7 golf though?

As it is just a roof conversion it has no difference mechanically to the GTI rag top which they are releasing anyway.

I would have thought AWD would be a mechanical point of difference.... or does the cabrio R not have that? Different engines as well aren't they?

Within the car there are mechanical differences but a ragtop on the same body would be identical as the differences in the car lay in the drivetrain and the engine rather than the body structure.

            • In the pics, the front calipers look more R than GTI

Golf GTI chassis/body != Golf R chassis/body - if it did then all the kids would be converting their GTI into AWD.

Also, traditionally, VW skip a cabrio version of every 2nd (or even 3rd) model so it's understandable that they would be still testing a Mk6 when the Mk7 is imminent as they will retain the Mk6 cabrio chassis until the MK8 Golf comes out. Probably they will make external cosmetic changes to make it look like a MK7 (as they did with the MKIV Cabrio) but the chassis will still be Mk6

eg: There was a Mk1 Cab; Mk3 Cab; MKIV was a MK3 chassis with lipstick on; no MKV because i assume they wanted to gove the EOS a chance; MK6.

                • Jeez I really do love this car.

Has it's warts (I've added a few) but after detailing it today and just checking bolts in the engine bay, adding a few bits and pieces and sitting in it in the garage listening to some tunes, I realise what a great little car it is for the money.

The funky bi-xenons, the leather stitching, the sexy steering wheel ....

Sure, VW made some cheap things on it and it is lacking quality in places but for the cash I paid (mid 50's), it really is a little pearl.

                  That's all

                  • I'm with you Candyman, I had mine Opti coated on Monday. I just love it more now that the previous treatment has been rectified. I know it's no tyre shredding weapon, but for me at my stage of driving career, (read old) it is brilliant at what it does.

Maybe it doesn't excel in some areas but it is pretty damn good overall. I am a very happy vegemite!

Shame it's not real leather....for $3k it would have been nice to get the real deal.

Real leather where it matters - almost all vehicles do it the same way.

I prefer leatherette on areas that aren't contact points and looks pretty good.

                        Didn't cost me $3K though

Your not talking about the seats are you? Because the seats are not real leather.
