Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Hey boltor, I'm running 19's with ACC. While not absolutely a given it's a nice to have option. At times though I would prefer to have 18's when running in sport mode just for a little extra side wall if you hit some crappy roads. I run most of the time in normal mode which is basically the feel you'd get with an R without ACC. I have have renamed my sport mode the Boob Jiggler mode........... probably why my wife never rides in the car with me anymore.

      • So I disconnected the internal noise maker kajigger that sits under the windscreen cowl. Made a considerable difference . I never realised how much of that drone was being fabricated by that little device. The engine noise is now much clearer and more exciting plus lots more induction noise...

              • Having only my R for three days now I find the suspension with 18's to be fine so am not noticing any harsher ride than the SV6 i had before it. Loving the R so far although the wife is a little nervous to drive it but im sure she will come to love it as well

As the guys have said above, 19's and ACC not essential but I find ACC great as I can adjust the feel of my R depending on mood or type of road or type of passenger :p though "wife" mode is either "sport" for jiggles or "comfort" if you want to keep her happy

                  • I first had a dynamically adjustable coil over system on my old Celica, a TEIN setup. Brilliant concept but the TEINS were noisy.

It was really useful with the missus around. Heck I even optioned it for the Tiguan And if I was looking for my own R, I'd definitely get that spec-ed in.. just for the versatility

But it did mean a custom order for the Tiguan

                    • I have 19"s and no ACC. I don't miss it and if i had to order an R again I would still not get it.

                      • Interesting you guys are saying you got the ACC in part to accommodate the wife

My wife actually said don't bother getting it when she and I did all our road tests in demos prior to purchase

I thought it might be a cool gimmick but as she said, on 17s, it did nothing in comfort versus non ACC so why waste the money

In Sport mode, she hated it, mainly because she said it just made the car feel like a Holden Commodore with flat tyres.

The R's steering is not that good really for a drivers car (too remote and over powered), I agreed about Sport mode, just made it worse

On 19s, could be useful perhaps ?

Comfort mode was more for my older bones on some of our crappy country roads in WA (not the highways these are good!) The wife didn't have any input, if she did I'd be driving a Golf TSI (as she's an accountant and frugal!)

                          • i disagree.
on 19's, in comfort mode the steering feels numb
in sport mode it "feels" more direct

Glad I have it. though it spends most teh day in comfort mode
More opportunites have been lost from indecision, rather than wrong decision....

                              • OK was pleasantly surprised to see the headlights self adjusting while driving up my driveway. I don't recall reading about it in the manual, how does this actually work?
