Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled
After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.
Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before.
We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Re the oil it's all good, don't just let her rip .. I always start with some gentle caresses and a few minutes of light foreplay until she's up to temp- 2006 Audi B7 RS4 sedan, black, APR supercharged

After taking delivery of my new R yesterday, I can offer the following first impressions. It is worth mentioning now that I had never driven a Golf R before.
- Even after less than 100ks, the glaring difference between what I have been used to (read MY09 Golf GTI with mods), is the feeling of the R being “heavy” and less agile than the GTI.
- The interior quality is pleasing and makes it a nice place to be, a more modern ambience than the MK V.
- Air con controls seem a little more complicated than the simple setup in the MK V, but I guess it is something that you just get used to.
- Engine noise (nice though) is a bit more intrusive.
- Reckon I will set ACC to “comfort” for urban driving, Brisbane roads are crap.
At this early stage of R ownership, I don’t regret making the move, but time will tell. Sure, aesthetically, the R does it for me, but here is much more to being satisfied with your drive than simply how it looks.

congrats on delivery ... think I can safely say that, for the burpengary/morayfield/caboolture area you'll have a pretty unique ride!
totally agree on the heaviness comment compared to a GTI .. however, I think you'll find that the R will be nice and agile at 150+kph. Around town though, the GTI/Octavia kicks arse imo.
re engine noise - love it, absolutely lurve it

OK so I have pretty much been off the VWW forums since I got the Golf VI 77 TSI for the missus while I was sorting out my affairs before the move. But it does look like I will be in Australia for good now from the middle of the year and the itch for a ride that's a bit more fun is getting harder to ignore.
I have been looking at some preowned Golf Rs in carsales.com.au and it surprises me how much the asking prices are for some of the models.
On the flip side, I am seeing Scirocco Rs selling brand new for pretty reasonable prices. And these seem to have really good kit as standard including the 19" rims, the ACC which are options on the R.
I still prefer a Golf R because of the AWD and because I think my missus will find it less daunting moving from the 77TSI as and when we need to swap cars, but finding one with ACC optioned in seems rare and those that have them aren't particularly cheap.
Am I missing something?

Not sure what the real question is, the reality is that these cars are in demand, new in context of release here in OZ and the waiting time is impossible so second hand market is tight. ACC is a hot debate, those that have it love it those that don't cant see what the fuss is about.
I am guessing you are struggling to find Golf R with ACC is because the option would prolong delivery so they get brought in without it.
Anyways I wish you luck, folk here are from all over and often flag what they see in the dealer yards. Also Dealers are in the forum and advertiseCurrent Ride: MY 16 Daytona Pearl Grey Audi S3- Performance Pack 1, Sunroof and Driver assist
