Not a fan at all. I think they stuffed it up. Front looks ok. But only because it has the R nice bumper. headlights are ok. Badge on the bonnet looks crap. Rear looks crap. FAT. FWD too. As above, each to there own.

Golf R Observations and Questions

I had a drive of a scirocco R today at a dealership, and whilst it drives great, what an ugly car. I really thought it would appeal to me a lot more than what it did... it may as well have been a 2 seater because no normal size human would fit in the rear seats.. the car is tiny. my Golf R just "feels" like more of a car to drive and to look at.. For 50k the scirocco is very overpriced. the rear is just wrong in real life.. front looks nice however. but in general the car just feels and looks like a females car.
lets be glad we all went with the Golf R!nom nom nom

A little harsh, horses for courses.. I saw one today in RB which I thought would really float my boat but alas not to be. I have said before that for a 3 door fan it will tick a lot of boxes, I suspect that most of us are used to the Golf shape and practicality it brings. Remember the Golf is not the most attractive sports car on the road eitherOriginally posted by Ryan41 View PostI had a drive of a scirocco R today at a dealership, and whilst it drives great, what an ugly car. calling the rear of the scirocco R "ugly" is like calling Miranda Kerr "average". I wouldnt go so far as to say its ugly...but given the choice I'd definitely take the Scirocco R over a spec'd up 3 dr MK6 Golf GTILast edited by stephen8512; 02-01-2012, 09:44 PM.

Agreed....everyone has their own opinion of course, but myself, i find the car very nice looking. Several reasons i wouldn't swap my Golf for one though are:
1) 3 door. I had 2x 200sx's and im over the big heavy doors. And skinny driveway plus skinny garage mean annoying.
2) No leather interior.
3) DSG only apparently (according to my dealership)
So ill just admire the Scirocco's good looks instead.

Hmm thats slightly incorrect....there is a manual option for the Scirocco R as far as I know. Its roughly 2500 cheaper than the DSG option.Originally posted by Lucas_R View PostAgreed....everyone has their own opinion of course, but myself, i find the car very nice looking. Completed the first part of our trip (in Brisbane now)
The R was faultless and got through unscathed except for minor chips on lower front bumper (covered with Chipstick now)
Car washed and another layer of sealant applied
Averaged 7.5 l/100
Wife did better than me in that regard, go figure.
Bumper stayed on. No rattles.
Kempsey and Macksville were traffic jams but rest was light traffic.
More than 20 cops on the way up. Plenty of cars pulled over incl a MKVI GTI8VSS2L/16 E9E9 XG MP SPP1 4ZD 6XK CSC5P with an extra free 10kW

Excellent fuel consumption.. I went up to Lauriton and best I could manage is 10.9.. Stage 1 drinks a bit, but overtaking is a blast

What a retarded comparison. Even one eyed freddy could tell she's got a rockin chassis.Originally posted by stephen8512 View Postcalling the rear of the scirocco R "ugly" is like calling Miranda Kerr "average".
The Rocco has a nice face but the backend is all serena williams. Each to their own.

pretty random question, but i've made a very slight observation due to the heat and wanting my windows down all the time
on the R, when you hold the unlock button down on your key fob, has anyone noticed that the rear windows go down the same speed, the front two windows are a little out of whack (i.e. the passenger side window goes down faster than the drivers side)
might just be my car because the drivers side window makes some squeaking noises as it winds down.MY11 Reflex Silver Golf R DSG / Mitsubishi Evolution MR

I'd hazard a guess you just wind your driver's window more frequently, and the window rubber seals have worn a little more (or the dealer has applied a treatment...), resulting in varying amounts of friction between the windows.Originally posted by changas View Poston the R, when you hold the unlock button down on your key fob, has anyone noticed that the rear windows go down the same speed, the front two windows are a little out of whack (i.e. the passenger side window goes down faster than the drivers side)2008 MkV Volkswagen Golf R32 DSG

The superglue trick didn't work on the broken rear cup holder as the notch broke off again, however wierdly enough it seems to function ok and close correctly without it so I left it in. Will see how it goes for now.Originally posted by parso_rex View PostI just had my 3 year old modify one of the vents in that same area. The parts have fallen down in side but if I can get them back it might be possible for it to be reconstructed. I still have to find where the two snails went too
Yeah as someone said before kids and R's don't really mix lol. As ours is the main family car (it was either the R or some crappy family taxi) got no choice, esp when the Mrs drives them around during the week while I walk to work (10min walk so yeah save the environment and all that good stuff hehe). Still, I have trained my kids fairly well with the R now although I still find the bloody food wrappers, foot dust prints on the back of the seat and crumbs etc in the back seat annoying though but its better than not having the R and driving a Falcodore around. Nothing a regular wash and clean can't fix
