Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

I run Omanyts (from a Mk5 R32) on my Mk6 GTI. Have been thinking of getting them painted gunmetal for some time, because in plain jane silver they're a bit boring. Still a nice rim though.

I ran them on the Tiguan, good wheel that looks classy.
I hade mine in gunmetal and it looked ace.

These were only available on the R36 and US R32 from memory as ours came with the Zolder wheel.

Actually I was referring to the Zolder rims, but you are right - the Omanyts does look a bit plain jane in silver. needs a paint job to bling it up

Have you tried the centre cap delete

To reply to my own post - I've found that after fitting the Mk7 Climatronic unit the lowest AC setting is now much more to my liking. It's actually a gentle breeze rather than just a downrated hurricane blast as it was with the original unit - much better.

The R36 size is 18x8; the R32 size is 18x7.5. In Australia, MY06-07 R32s had the Zolder, and MY08-09 got the Omanyt.

Hmm, I should give that a go. I'd need to find a decent centre cap though, and I don't have an R (and don't believe in "badge engineering").

                          • Made an observation today, that may be a known to others (esp DSG drivers) but not to me (manual Golf R). When you are driving down the F3(now M1) and some moron decides to sit inches from your rear bumper despite being in a 3 car queue cruising over the limit slowly trying to overtake, don't brake while you still have your foot on the throttle, the car shuts down the engine power and (I didn't wait long enough to test further) the only way to get power back again is to take your foot off the throttle and put it back on...
The inches turned into cms when all I was trying to do was give the moron a brake light warning.
I did briefly test again in a clear section just to see if I wasn't going silly, and definitely despite taking your foot back off the brake pedal, the engine RPM keeps dropping until you take your foot off the throttle and put it back on...very strange!

                              • Safety feature - think along the lines of that Ford that was stuck on cruise control on the freeway a few years back, and another similar incident in the USA.

Plus that means old people can't drive around with their brakelights on constantly
