Try using VCDS to turn down the HSA setting one notch, since you're noticing jerkiness particularly on inclines:

Your case doesn't sound as bad. My car had (and actually still has) the problem where it will shudder from standstill when transitioning from D1 to D2 on a slight incline or steeper. Most people here only have the shudder when creeping forward in D2 & accelerating... which is milder than what I had (still have).

Yeah I actually have that too, I think the slight incline shudder is the easiest to reproduce. Turning from a mid slow down (give way sign) is also a good offender. Sorry to hear you still have cases of the shudder, I thought the flash would have resolved things considering you got new pads and all.

Does anyone know how long these pads can last if things continue like this? I imagine there are tons of people out there who probably have minimal shudder and just deal with it.

I don't know of any Victorian dealers that are relatively easy to deal with this issue.

Recommend Burwin @ Ferntree Gully. Not 100% pro-active but they're quite easy to deal with and quick to suggest replacement. Only you have to wait ~a month for the parts to arrive once diagnosis is complete.

Wow... that video is particularly bad IF all the noises being made are in relation to the DSG (and, say, not the camera's chassis tapping).

I have driven some loan comfortline golfs that do shudder in D2 slightly. If yours is a slight shudder, it may be that it's not too late to just use the DQ200 to fix the issue.

It is preferable to have the clutch plates replaced so you know that you are starting from a clean sheet... but could be hard to argue with the service centre. Their default is to deny there is anything wrong with your car & you have to fight really hard to prove that it is due to the shudder & not the normal operation of the car.

There is only 1 instance in this thread of a VW dealer pro-actively diagnosing this, but unfortunately for you they are in Sydney. I don't know of any Victorian dealers that are relatively easy to deal with this issue.

The only way I could get my clutches replaced the 2nd time was to argue that my warranty only had 3 weeks remaining, and that they would be leaving me high & dry if failed again after warranty... so they fixed it more out of reluctant pity than real acceptance there was a problem.

I don't think that's a good strategy... it's better to get the DSG tune asap... with or without the plates being replaced.

You need to replace parts but chances are they'll develop a shudder again later on, I didn't want to take that chance and got the DSG tune

Clutch replacement in the DQ200 will fix the shudder. The DSG tune software alters the behavior of the gearbox though i do not know enough about it to say if it would be an issue if you tried to claim warranty on a defective mechatronics unit....

as cktsi pointed out what I described in another thread is being the 'shudder' I wanted to see if the new mechatronics + clutch pack installed is a permanent fix? because it seems (from the replies) that the DQ200 flash is the only thing that's a real fix.

New motor! Did yours destroy its piston(s) like a number of other 118TSI's have?

Are you asking whether clutch slipping can cause a car not to start? As i can tell you the answer is no. If you understand the ottoman cycle you will realise that for an engine to fire you only need air,fuel and spark. If those conditions are met the car will start regardless.

sounds like the clutch changed cannot solve the problem. just like a roll of toilet paper, after you used it for a while, it will be used up and need to be changed.
And wasting time to change.

I've owned my TSI118 for a year now and it started to shudder about 9 months in, I've had the Clutch replaced but want to know from those of you that have had this problem:

- is it fixable?

- If it's happened to me once, does this mean it'll happen again?

After clutch replacement shudder was back after 10 days. Booked in for mechatronics replacement, felt good after that but still didn't like early up-shifting so quickly purchased the DSG software tune and it's been brilliant ever since.

My golf shudder @ 5-10km/h D1 when accelerating.
It happens after oil temp. over 90C, several start/stop in city area.
Is this required to change the clutch?

I was told by VW that the shudder is normal before.

Nah it's not normal. I have the same problem, after the clutch has been changed once. But for now it only occurs after ~40min city driving. Which is really annoying since my VW dealer is 3 minutes drive from my house, so in order to demonstrate it at my next service I'll have to go for a joy ride.

If you leave it long enough you won't have to wait very long for it to show it's ugly face. Last time I had the clutch replaced I only had to drive 10 minutes before it started shuddering.
