It is only the 19" wheel current R with black headlight housing (a shame actually, i took a RB with sexy black headlights for a test drive without knowing much about the R apart from 4wd, turbo, and more kilowasps than my WRX, but wanted manual, didn't want the huge tyre & ride cost for 19", when my car was delivered, it had silver housing, who would have known the wheel size dictated the headlight housing lol!).
19" also comes with silver trim on the headlights if the rims are in silver.
But I thought the side mirror is black for all R variants.
With the reveal of the MK7 GTI at the Paris Motor Show (looks good!) I wonder how long it will be before official pics of the MK7 R surface. From memory the MK6 GTI was revealed months after the main MK6 model range, but with the MK7 it has been less than a month.

I don't think that is correct, the Golf R i took for a test drive had silver 19" Tallegras but black housing.. Loved the really manly looking black housings actually, anyone want to swap (seriously off topic, sorry mods)?

This is what I don't get - just going fast isn't that fun to me. I like to feel that I'm doing more than turning the wheel and having the car point exactly where I want it if I'm having a play.
ok I have seen the light now Greg .. yes sir, indeed, the penny has officially dropped.

What a whiney rubbish review.. If people want hardcore then buy the rubbish finish Japanese spine crushers. I hope the MK7 can match the high standard the MK6 has already

Complaining about turbo lag in the Golf? Compared to an Evo or STI there is hardly any lag at all.
Yeah, first thing i noticed driving the R over my MY01 WRX was the balls it has from nearly idle to max...it just pushes and pushes, the wrx had nothing at all under 2700rpm.
The Golf is temperamental though, sometimes it feels pedestrian, other times it makes the hairs stand up on the back of your neck. I wonder though if this was run in time, as lately nearly always the car has felt good.
I can't believe they want that car cheaper still in that review? I guess though without rear led, comfort tint glass, rear view glare free mirror etc, they really did get a cut down R compared to here.
Compared to my MKV (which lost quality compared to earlier MKV's), standards have dropped in the MKVI. The DSG is slightly better, however, not by much though. Interior fit and finish and quality of materials is lower. Paint (incl RB) finish is worse. No real progression in engine. Better Haldex but hardly earth shattering. Plenty more areas where the MKVI overall is not "high standard" versus the previous gen.
The Golf overall clearly is a nicer place to be than competitors and one reason I have bought them.
Agree about the review though - needs to be done with comparison to what else is on offer.
