Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

But I don't like their engines, and whilst I no longer find their interiors offensively bad, they're just unremarkable. Turbo-charged engines in the next model gives hope. There is also hope with the fact that their interiors have been increasing in quality. We'll see what happens in the future. But for now... just not what I'd pick for the roads.

I agree, but then that should be obvious. Polo > Golf > Passat etc
But the Polo is nicer than anything else for its money, and even nicer than some more expensive cars, such as the Renault Sports. Hence why I'll look on with great interest about the Audi S1, and even how much of APR's Polo GTI kit can be fitted to the Audi A1 Sport. I know that some people are not a fan of the look of the A1, but there is now 4 of them out in the car park at my work and 3 of them look awesome imo
Audi A1 - not a fan of it's look....Fiat 500 wannabe. Audi stuffed up on the design of this one.

I agree with that, they really could use the R division to create some more unique models and they'd sell for sure. Whether they do or not is another story, let alone if they ever reached our shores.

Yeah I don't like it one bit. The best part about it is that if they do make a super A1, there is a small chance VW can share the bits to make an "R" polo. I'd upgrade the missus 77TSI no problems.

Just amuses me to see the AWD/Haldex knockers bag the Golf's setup but the stopwatch doesn't lie. That plus you can't turn the ESP off for track use.
End of the day they're all pretty good with bugger-all difference in lap time.
Renault Megane RS Mk III vs VW Golf R - FastestLaps.com
As you can see above, the 250RS is a better handling car as the Golf R accelerates over 400m 7 tenths quicker yet the 250 makes this gap up and even ends up quicker on some circuits. There was a comparison that Wheels done on the small twisty haunted hills layout where the Megane was quicker than Golf R, WRX and Rs Focus... Motor aint the bible but I still want my copy!!

But all the reasons you list are valid.
Those were all on my list, in addition to the "AWD" in general. Still after 7 months of owning the Golf R the AWD is the biggest "love hate" part of the car for me. It's awesome for the traffic-lights GP, but beyond that, I just still don't see its benefit. Not that I feel FWD is better. RWD is though
I had no issues with the AWD as I'd previously owned an Impreza RS (MY02) and the VW one is a much smarter system.

                    • Those plastics look worn already haha, the Clio isn't meant to be a pretty car, but rather a fun roadworthy go-kart chuck-about. One word to describe it is fun. Definitely not an all rounder like the golf's. They're an expensive toy IMO expect some rattles! when one rattle disappears another emerges haha.

Hmmmm....my Golf GTI has more rattles than my old 206 GTi180!

                          • As I said before, have done over 20,000km over the last 15 months and the car is rattle free. In fact, it reminds me of an AK47-no bull approach to purpose, focused and effective, just like Kalashikov's masterpiece

Not all Golf's are created equal, after 18 months and 30,000km, I just wait for the rattles to come and go, its the variety that impresses.
