You of all people would know about that right? e.g. fervently defending the R32 when you owned one (attacking anyone even remotely critical of the R32) and now yourself dissing it now that you no longer own one. And now fervently defending your Mk6 GTI.
When you buy your next car, will you start dissing the Mk6 GTI?
Its good to side with your current team, but its better to follow your own principles.
Like when I owned my MY09 WRX, I accepted it was ugly then, and that it had lost the WRX character (lightweight, tonnes of grip) when I owned it. Not just now cause I have sold it.
Probably more p!$$ed off at not being able to get what I want now, considering I "pre-ordered" in Feb 2009 than the price .... so discount of $1500 is going to do nothing for me.
Same here mate, annoyed at VWA for not having the common sense to look after us buyers who committed our money early on. Might be official policy not to but they're shooting themselves in the foot by turning away easy sales.
Yeah - what is the deal about needing to be one of the first in Australia to own the car? Why not wait a year till the hype has died down and you are able to secure a better deal?
Instant gratification LOL. We want what we want but who said you can't do that and still get a good deal?
You've got an over captilised 300ZX and you're worried about electrical and mechanical items on a brand new VW using components which have been in other vehicles for years? LOL
I decided to do a massive update to my "Car Pricing Calculator Spreadsheet"
Good work there mate, unforunately it won't stop a lot of stupid questions! My spec comes to $68k before discount which to me is much better value than the competiton (evo/sti etc) even if i did 5dr for parity.
FWIW, from memory the RRP of a 3dr DSG R32 with sunroof (leather/xenon inc) was about 68k also. Given I've added ACC, 19's and bluetooth then I'd say VW has done a great job on pricing here.
But it's not 78k unless you're crazy enough to tick every option. Do the same in a BMW or Audi and hello $100k....if an 80k golf is crazy then a 100k A3/135 is a certfied nut.
The main reason people would buy the R is for bragging rights, doubt you actually need the extra power/handling for the streets. It's a pretty good package, although road presence and looks are a bit down on the R32 so I decided the GTI would be plenty this time (and still faster than my R32 was).
Seriously dude are you reading what you type before hitting post? You're all over the shop, which car do you actually like/want?
Anyone know what the stock speakers are like in the R. I forgot to test them when I test drove the car, I was to busy drooling.
Ditto, I put the radio on just to see the screen and that was it LOL. The mechanical sounds had me fully engaged. Standard golf system does me ok so should be an issue here.
Interesting point of comparison: If I spec an R to match my GTI, the RRP of an R is a full $20,000 more expensive than what I paid for my GTI one week ago. (I did receive a good discount here in SA on my GTI, and I'd be very surprised if dealers will be prepared to do anything approaching an equivalent deal on an R in the short term.)
Yes, the R includes options that I didn't tick on my GTI - bi-xenons, metallic paint, rear sensors etc - but these options weren't of value to me personally and so I didn't option them. As good a value proposition as the R is to some buyers in some states, it certainly isn't to me. The price calculator just confirms that.
(Please don't interpret this post as an R-bashing - I love the R. I'm just saying I don't love it to the tune of $20k more than my GTI.)
