Thanks. Have booked the car in at the VW Waitara dealer for an inspection. Do you know of any other reputable VW car repairer apart from the VW dealers in the Northshore, Sydney areas? Would be good to get a 2nd opinion....

    • DSG Shuddering - 3rd Party Tuning?

I had my mechatronics replaced and not long after, the same problems occur with the DSG. I have a relatively steep driveway and when the DSG plays up, it will shudder the car quite hard going up.

I have been able to do the "soft reset", by opening the door, turn the key half way, wait for the servo noise to stop, wait 10 seconds, close the door and start the car. Drive the car slowly changing gears at ~2000rpm fixes the DSG for a short period. This made the DSG wonderful to drive again - no lags, no shuddering.

I noticed that going back to and from work (<4km each way), it doesn't play up much during the week. But once I do some distance driving, ie. 30km trips, it starts to be stupid again. I tried driving in manual only, it eventually go stupid again.

Since VW does not care, has anyone tried a 3rd party option - to have the ECU retuned by a tuning house and have permanent - non fuzzy logic for the DSG? ie. it does not learn as you drive. It's just set as is.

I found when I "soft reset" the DSG, it works brilliantly, so I have the feeling this is more a software issue than a mechanical one.

        • It might fix the problem but as a provider, I'd not be giving any guarantees. Just how steep is your drive?

As long as your clutch packs are not damaged, our DSG software will be the go. If they are not shuddering all the time, then you may be lucky.

Looks OK on my big screen here, but I see what you mean. I'll get the web designer to make it contrast a little better

Apologise if this has been mentioned before but I searched for an answer but no success. Was driving our 2007 V6 Passat last weekend & a fault developed with the manual/Tiptronic shift. When shifting the gears from low to high & vice versa, the gears failed to engage & the instrument counter gear shift indicators lighted up all at once. However when I shifted back to "D", it started to work/drive again. Any ideas what causing this & is this a common occurrence? Thanks, Ian
Following up from my earlier post #1063 above re: my Passat manual gear shift problems, turns out that it's a transmission control module issue. I read in other threads that it might play up if it's in contact with moisture? Ever since the time I experienced the fault twice on the same day within an hour of each other, it did not happen again even after the VW dealer tested it twice. It did showed/confirmed the fault happened twice with the exact time/date when VW ran a "diagnostic" test. Anyone have this experience before?

                        • Hi there,

I'm new and posting RE my parents Golf MK6 2009 TDI77. The car drives fine and no issues with changing gears but VCDS scan tool has found last week (clearing the code) and now is giving Clutch 1 P189A "Clearance too Small".

The car has had the 35C1 & 37G7 DSG recall done just under 1 year ago and just wondering if this error is related to those?

                          Many thanks for any help

I took the car in for final warranty work (3 year) not related to the DSG ( DE-misster ), mentioned to shudder could be back.! They carried out another clutch change...got told that the clutch was not changed as part of Mech recall. This is now the 4th set of clutches. Sorry I don't have access to OBDII or VCDS, so I can't tell you the codes that occurred.
Will use this the explain that I have now got a mutual aim of getting rid of my Golf, and it's in VW's interest to assist in this.
I have 2 more years of drive train warranty remaining, and every clutch has a two year warranty. So far a clutch has not been resident for anything approaching 12 months. So it looks like it free clutches for life.

Is it the way you drive it that causes this wear.
DSG boxes hate being gently moved up in a line of traffic and worst of all holding it on a hill by releasing the brake a bit ( like you used to do in a slush box) When you come to a stop keep the brakes on hard and dont let it creep. Worst possible thing to do.
My wife annoys me by slowly driving into the garage with brakes on and slipping the clutches madly when she could drive straight in on idle and just apply brake when in fully.

                              • Hi TheGee,

I am in the same boat as you as the shudder is back after the recall Mechatronic change. Can you explain why it is in VW interest to get rid of your Golf? Have they offered a buyback, swap or anything like that? The value of warranty repairs and recalls have probably reached the value of my car (90TSI DSG) and I would like to know if it would be feasible to approach VW for a deal?

                                Cheers,
                                Daniel
