  • Work out under what conditions it's easiest to replicate so that you can demonstrate the faults to the service tech who will hop in the passenger seat and go for a quick drive with you to confirm the fault when you visit the dealer.

    • Putting DSG into D or R (Golf R)

Just a question, if this is normal or not:

when, for example pulling out of a carspot, and you go from P > D, or P > R, if not completely stationary, ie: slightly rolling, does the car shudder\splutter into gear ?

Im not sure if its a gearbox issue, or just how the dsg is, but i need to completely stop, engage either D or R, wait a second, and then start moving, if im in say N and just put it into D without braking, it will shudder into gear

      • Had my dealer look at the car today as part of the 45,000km service. Root cause was a clutch pack requiring replacement which came up during the diagnostics. Getting it replaced next Thursday!

        • Golf R dsg gear changes

Has anyone with a Golf R or GTI notice there car bounce off the limiter before it changes to the next gear when WOT?

Is this normal? I've notice this happen a few times in my R when in D and going from 1st to 2nd. Does the DSG tune help with this?

I have heard of this issue happening with some cars, particularly those that are tuned.

                • Both times this has happened its been going from 1st to 2nd with the steering turned. I wonder if loss of traction in the front wheels my be contributing to this.

                  • Sounds like a recipe for traction control intervention.

Try turning traction control off and trying it again. Sounds like it's kicking in.

                      • Hello Fellow Dubbers
So my Trans Cooler has corroded (6 Speed tip tronic) Transfluid mixed with coolant.
Fellow member Piper26 hit me with the information 100% spot on, The Trans people reckon the clutches will all be damaged because of the water (approx. 2000km from the last trans service), Are they correct? If I install a new cooler flush the coolant system and dump the contaminated fluid and refill will fresh trans fluid, will this work or is my MK5 headed to an early grave...(Quoted $4500 for a rebuilt trans)
                        Regards
                        SG

                        • Try the flush treatment. Transmission is fun to refill and fluid is costly. But give it a shot before buying a new transmission.

                          • Hi,

Apologise if this has been mentioned before but I searched for an answer but no success. Was driving our 2007 V6 Passat last weekend & a fault developed with the manual/Tiptronic shift. When shifting the gears from low to high & vice versa, the gears failed to engage & the instrument counter gear shift indicators lighted up all at once. However when I shifted back to "D", it started to work/drive again. Any ideas what causing this & is this a common occurrence? Thanks, Ian

                            • Can't say I've ever heard of that one.

Scan for fault codes and/or make a booking with the dealer.

That sounds like the beginnings of a Mechatronic failure. Definitely get the dealer to look at it, and just be prepared in case it happens again and leaves you stranded.
