I'm not too sure where to ask this but my sister and her husband are looking at buying a GTI under the current sale and they have found a MY11 with the specs they want (manual, grey, 18's, MDI, Bluetooth and xenons) and they wanted to know if the MY11 had the daytime running lights. I know for a fact the MY12 has them but I wasn't sure about the MY11. Thanks in advance

Amen to that, brother. It's on the long stretch to Fremantle now. We'll have to organise a bit of a drive when our cars arrive.

I must have just got lucky with mine. I ordered mid June and will receive early November. That's with pretty much all the boxes ticked bar the motorsport seats and reverse camera (the latter of which I'm sort of regretting spending the extra on and the former I couldn't possible justify the 5k asking price)

As in the daytime LED's or just DRL's in general? All cars from factory you can enable the DRL's so the lights are on. As for the LED's all MY10.5 (from 2010 june) onwards got it so the MY11 should have it.

i hope they're buying today though! the dealer i visted yesterday (chatswood classic) said by today they'll probably all be gone (gti). and he told me this after i placed my order for a diff car so don't think it was a pressure tactic. but i'm sure it varies dealer to dealer

Ordered new Golf - happy - quick questions...

my love affair with VW started with a 2002 Bora, bought new loved it.

Bought my wife a Polo within a month (now gone, but a nice car).

Traded the Bora in on a Mark V Golf Comfortline in 2006. Loved it as well, but in 2010 it got trashed in our hail storm in March (?), not quite a write off unfortunately, so it had to be repaired. Tried trading it in for a new Mark VI GOLF in Oct last year but could not get the price I wanted - whereas Mazda gave me the right changeover on a Mazda 3 SP25 Luxury Auto - nice car, but not a VW!

So yesterday signed up fopr a new FSI118 DSG Golf with Sports Pack and RNS510 Sat Nav, carpet mats, chrome boot rtrim and stainless steel door sill protectors (yeah I know, but I am a sucker for a bit of bling!). Pick it up on Friday.

Had always bought from Hughes VW but they never got back to me despite me visiting dealer and putting to them what I wanted. Had been in discussions with Wangara, but a week ago, they just never responded to a phone call. Not their fault probably, the two guys I was talking with up there were not in on the day I called and maybe just never got the message to call me back the day after. So tried Melville. To date, sales process has been faultless and quick.

Stoked to be coming back to VW.

Quick questions...what TINT best matches the standard privavcy glass tint in back windows of sports pack, and best place to source and install in Perth? No need to get back windows or screen done?

And should I ask dealer to take the RNS back a firmwear version as I have heard the latest version somehow gives less precise navigation info (ie does not display the actual road name you are travelling on)?

Only thing I could not get dealer to throw in was iphone MDI cable, he wants $90. I dont have an ebay or PayPal account and might be at his mercy there!

firstly, GREAT! the 118tsi is a fantastic car, welcome aboard the bandwagon! i'm sure you'll be extremely pleased with it

secondly, the cable doesnt cost $90. my dealer offered it to me at $70... but i bought 1 over ebay for about $25. works like the original so i'm happy.

i'd suggest you get an account on ebay, pretty easy saves you close to $50... or a nice meal.

i'm not sure about the tints though. from what i gathered the factory tints dont block out as much UV rays (if any at all)

The factory privacy glass is not a tint - meaning it doesn't block out UV at all.

I had my car tinted with tint-a-car and got the Formula One tint. It matches pretty well. It's not going to be perfect, but it's good enough for me to be happy!

Sorry m_f, not quite right there. I asked Volkwagen that question because I go from pale to burnt in no time at all, see response below.

"The UV rating has <1% penetrability for the windscreen, <69% for side and rear clear glass (or <31% for green tint glass) Factory privacy glass has a 65% degree of absorption, with the UV-rating being <8% (penetrability). Sunroof glass has a 87% degree of absorption, with the UV-rating being <5% (penetrability).

Ok... my Golf R has finally entered production...

I was wondering how long does production takes before I can get a VIN number?

The lady at VWA told me production takes 6-8 weeks.
10 weeks on the ship.
and 2 weeks at Australian customs

if the is true then I am still 20 weeks away.. that is like 5 months!!!
Is that correct or is she being overly conservative?

Great news, big_e, at least u have clue your ride arrival. how did the VWA lady contact u? by phone or email? u already knew the build week, right? As i know, build a car don't need that long, it just take around a week or max 10 days in build process, then your ride will load on the boat. btw, any help or update from your salesman? i think they just helpless, they can provide any useful info about the delivery info for the car, even I keep email my salesman, but he don't reply me even a word. Disappointing, as a customer only help just from VWA and need to call them to check the update
