Not true. I waited over 7 months for mine, and several other members have waited considerably longer than 4 months for a GTI in the past. It's possible that GTI order timeframes are improving now however - perhaps some potential GTI buyers are going for the R instead.

Im guessing those earlier deliveries may be due to the specs you order already matching or very close to a car already being built. I was told 5-6 months wait for my GTI, its fairly specific as you can see by my sig, hopefully it dont take any longer then 6 months as my TDI looks like it will sell very soon

Ordered 28th October - so 5 months on the dot from Order to Delivery.

I'm getting the 5 door Manual, most of the people who ordered the DSG from what I have been reading mostly drive it in manual mode anyway, so I couldn't see the purpose of getting the Auto myself =) - Currently driving around an old Holden wagon auto and I hate it... I can't wait for when the truck turns up and unloads my car at the front of my door.. Then I have to figure out how to put these Euro plates on as looking at pictures with the normal QLD plates makes the car look odd...

On Order : Rising Blue Golf R - 5 Door ; Manual ; ACC ; 19" Talladega Wheels (silver). ETA 28th March 2011

thanx mate yea i think the majority is DSG. my current TDI is a DSG and its great, but ive always had a soft spot for the manual, when i test drove the manual GTI i just couldnt say no, that and the nice discount over the DSG

I was the same. I know it may be a little stupid considering I've bought a performance car with the gearbox that actually offers less performance, but I'm just a sucker for a manual!

My thoughts exactly. In the real world, you're not going to notice .3 of a second to 100kph. And an old-school manual is just plain more fun!

Ordered a CW 3dr GTI 3 manual yesterday. This post serves as a dealer praise. Thank you to Tom at Berwick VW for the car and your great help. Only need to wait until early May for just what I wanted. Give him a call! (I am in no way associated with Berwick VW, other than to be a new customer)

These are both awesome results guys, very little wait time. I think you're going to make some of us (me included) jealous considering the mind-numbing waits we have suffered!

Dealer called this morning... my car, which arrived on the Morning Conductor into Melbourne on 6/3 has finally arrived at their dealership yesterday. He reckons I can pick it up next Saturday 2/4 just to be sure. All that time - 10 days - to do pre-delivery. Sounds too long but at this point I am pretty much over it. Actually considered cancelling the deal yesterday and buying a s-box to drive instead but the wife REALLY wants this car.
