in regards to ordering, i was advised that the wait my be a couple of extra months. the reason being is that they have to change the computer programs to match, cant really remember what she said but im gonna ask again clearly pretty soon. Also i think that they prefer to get all the Oz colours done first then decide to do all the reds i think. going to get clarification soon though. the wait she told me for a Oz spec colour was 6-8 weeks so she put down the delivery date for 29th Oct (that is 8 months due to the red)

hopefully it comes a lil earlier, not sure if thats been the case for anyone though.

She told you OZ spec colours were 6-8 weeks? More like 6-8 months at the moment for any colour R, so if you've been quoted 8 mnths for Red thats pretty good.

Yeah - it's simply not possible to get a Golf delivered in 6 to 8 weeks. There is more than that involved in shipping and compliance/pre-delivery...

I wonder if she meant that the next R batch are scheduled to be built in the next 6 to 8 weeks? Latest info I have from my dealer is that my week 5 build has been moved to a week 13 build so that fits with the 6 to 8 weeks? May not be the production batch that the Red one will be made in though.

Possibly. That was my initial thought as the 6 to 8 weeks makes no sense as a delivery date. But then, the 8 month thing makes no sense either in that context as any car ordered now wouldn't get built in the next 6 to 8 weeks and would probably take 8 weeks to get here anyway...

Oh well. No point with endless speculation - lets just see what happens and see whether CJYoung is actually successful in getting the custom colour done. Thus far I haven't seen any examples of a custom colour being performed at the customer's request. Even the red and white R32's which ended up in this country in 2009 were apparently a mistake...

So after being told my 5 Door Rising Silver DSG arrived as a Silver 3 Door Manual last week, I finally got my Golf R this arvo.

5 Door, Rising Blue DSG, Nav, MDI, ACC, Leather (lost out on the elec seats, but got a reversing camera in the trade-off).

And then drove from the dealer and back to the office to work so I can pay for the damm thing, wish it was a miserable day outside so I didn't feel so bad sitting working !

Silver 18's.... after putting new rubber on my GTI pirelli (just before I got my R) didn't want the extra cost of going the 19's (when it came time to replace them once they got worn out because I enjoy driving the car so much)... and they didn't delivery with them so I guess I got what I wanted ?

i have noticed the Detroits come standard on the UK VW website now - this would be great if its now the same for AU. Although my recent options price list sourced from a dealer includes the Detroits as an optional upgrade. Is it at all possible you get something in writing from your dealer so that i may get the wheels free too?! would also mean i could option the Sat Nav if this does pan out lol!

MiiLos - sorry for the belated reply. I only finalised the contract in the last 24hrs. He isn't giving me anything in writing that the wheels are included aside from an email which says if they are not on the car when it gets to the dealership they will be when I take delivery. I pressed him again yesterday when I collected the loan car (2006 Jetta manual TDi which is now broken down... yay !!) and he was adamant that all GTIs currently on the VW system show 18" Detroits and they all seem to be coming off the boat that way (unless ordered with 17s) so he assures me that if I see the car next Saturday 19th when I come to collect it and the 18s arent on it I can tear up the contract and walk away. I was clear that the sale and my acceptance of his offer of $48,500 is entirely predicated on the car coming with all of the listed options on the contract AND 18 inch wheels which he assures me will be the case.

Not much there to help you I am afraid...

no problem kojarena. that sounds like its going to work out for you though, but him telling you verbally that you can walk away from the contract if the wheels arent on the car is not much of a leg to stand on. however your email means that they will fit them at the dealer at no extra cost - wich is a win/win scenario for you hehe! im sceptical at this stage but i will be trying to push the issue tomorrow when i visit the essendon dealer here in VIC! thanks for the feedback
