  • Yep. The order system (NADCON) doesn't give them an ETA at all. Not for quite some time anyway. They manually put in an ETA based on past experience and other current orders they have. In other words:
    1) The dealers are stupid
    2) The dealers are liars

    Take your pick.
It's why good dealers get so frustrated!

    • Yeah it's a long wait but for now i'll take solace in the fact that:

      1) I'll completely forget about the wait once i take delivery
      2) Others have been / are in the same boat
      3) Gives me more time to save more $ for the car/future mods

      • Mine ordered mid December 2010 - build date week 9 of 2011 - my calc last week of February. Would put delivery late May - probably last week of going on previous car timing.

I am starting to smile. Excitement will build when vin # available start of March.

Stupid question.. but how did you find out the build date week information?

            1) So true. 2010 went SO QUICK for me now!
            2) Yep, nothing new really. I'm thankful that it only took 6 months to get my R instead of the "much more" that it took for some of the MKV GTI owners to get their cars!
            3) Yep. By the time my R arrived, I didn't even need to sell/trade-in my Polo before picking up the R. So waiting has its advantages.

The dealer can provide that in the few weeks before it will go into production...

Dealer sent me a copy of my NADCON (order system) which lists all the options in the factory build plus it shows Planned Production Week - probably only just released - pays to have a good relationship with your sales person - or the fact I bought a few VWs in the last year.

              • So the NADCON printout is completely different to the "New Vehicle Contract" printout yeah?

Can anyone shed a bit more light on how the ordering works? i.e if I placed my order at the end of October does that necessarily mean that my GTI will be built no later than GTi Crow's in which he ordered his mid December?

No it does not. It depends on your options and when VW are going to run an Australian production run with those options. The Australian VWs have certain parts that other VWs don't - so they meet the Australian standards of local content.

New Vehicle Contract is what you sign which includes all your options - some of those options (such as front side window tinting or towbar etc. are dealer options). The NADCON is what is ordered for your car by VW Australia from Germany (or where ever production is). It is a printout from VW systems of their order.

Drawback is mine is a planned prod-week - it may move, but at least it gives me an idea.

To give you a better idea when I bought my first Mk6 GTI I did not hurry to sign the contract, because I new that Australian Golf GTIs with Bi-xenons were not going to be built until after start of 2010 - I ended up ordering mine on 2/1/2010 and had it in the 1st week of June 2010. If I had ordered in October when they were released I would have not got my GTI any sooner than maybe a week or so.

Good on ya! Yes, I will stick it out.

What can I do? The heart wants what the heart wants. On a positive note, I should find out shortly the build date/week assigned.

                      • if mine gets pushed to June/July I may need to pull out. I am now without a car and by April I will be desperate.

After almost 8 months of "should I or should't I" I got some balls and decided to get a new GTI.
                            Decided on
Black, Dsg, 18" Detroit, leather, sunroof.

Hearing the long waits I took a stab at finding out if any Sydney metro dealers had any on the floor.
Was in luck! A car had just arrived in the dealers holding yard, but had no home to go to after the original orderer couldn't get finance sorted.

But this car had park assist too. Thinking it was Christmas and I did t want to wait till June, I snapped her up. Pick her up on the first week of January! Can't wait!
Well I picked her up yesterday afternoon. 12 days from order to delivery...not bad considering xmas and new year holidays. I don't know how most of you can wait 4, 5 even 6 months for a car! I am lucky they had the exact car I wanted. (thank you to the original buyer, who's finance fell through)

Have to say I was very impressed with the team at Chatswood Classic. Very professional and their customer service has been great. Even got a bottle of bubbly to say thanks.

I have a fundamental issue with calling decent people liars, for all the Sales reps flaws as I suggested earlier they are fluid with the truth rather than liars, happy to go with stupid.

I didn't call any decent people liars. I called the liars liars.
There are good sales reps out there who don't lie. Multiple in fact. Some on this forum, and even in this very thread...

Don't get me wrong, I'm often the first person on here to jump on and defend dealers and offer reasons for dealers actions etc But some times they are inexcusable. And lying to customers about delivery dates in order to steal sales from dealers who are upfront and honest - to me that is inexcusable.
