Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

I assume you bought a GTI? I reckon the Carbon Grey looks awesome too!

Hopefully the sunroof will assist you during resale.

In any case, enjoy the sunshine & breeze with the sunroof when you get it. I'm sure you'll grow to love it. I'd never get a car without one. Everything happens for a reason

Yep, "GTI only" colours are Tornado RED, and CSG. So yep its a GTI for sure.

And hey, +1 CSG looks awesome.

Good to see the dealer did the right thing in the end.. but yeah agreed, after the wait some $off would have done the trick or some free servcing.. The same passion that lets someone wait 7 months for a car, has to rewarded more so than normal I reckon.

But your resolution was a pretty fair one at least.

        • I too had some bad news on Friday. My Golf is not expected to arrive until June 2011 now. Still sitting on dealer spec. I'm rapidly losing interest and excitement over this car.

At least you got an insanely fantastic price!
One of my mate was at South Yarra VW a couple of months ago and took a pic of a CW R with specs highly similar to yours!

Wouldn't they be able to fit all that later on, at the service dept? (for free of course!)

                must be so dissapointing

It was missing the Bi Xenon lights, Park Assist and Bluetooth. So here I was all excited, ordered back in July and was tracking the car expecting a Jan pickup only to receive a call detailing this ridiculous stuff-up. Dealer advised me that everything was fine from their end, but the factory just didn't do their job.

So I was left with a couple of options:
                  1. Get the dealer to re-order the car and wait till Jun 11 for delivery (In other words wait a year to get my hands on this car)
                  2. Select from a range of other cars that are is Aust with the options requested and get delivery sooner.

So from this I did select one from the range, but it was Carbon Grey, not Deep Black and it had a sun roof, something I did not want. Dealer came back to me today and said that VW said that they would take $550 off the sunroof, so at the end of that I was expected to pay extra for my car even though it wasn't my mistake.

Told him I would call back in 15min. Went away and let off some steam, then called back and just let loose. A bit of an insult to say "Here we found a replacement, different colour, but we'll do you a favour and only charge you $1,350 for the sun-roof." To cut a long story short the venting of anger worked somewhat and they agreed to charge me the same price as my origianl purchase and not charge me for the sunroof. So only change to my original order is the colour, and quite happy with this in fact plus now I get a free sunroof. But still a little peeved that they would think dropping off a few $$ would keep me happy.

Only issue now the car is in Melbourne, waiting for compliance in the new year, and then it has to be shipped over the Perth. So to all the others out there waiting, maybe just check in with your dealer to see if all is fine. Not the Xmas surprise I was after.
It's a shame that this happened, but I'm glad that it worked out in the end.
I agree totally that considering the cars were so close, and the inconvenience that had been caused, the inclusion of the sunroof for free was the least they could do! I also think that you've lucked out, as Carbon Grey Metallic is better than Deep Black Pearl!

It's interesting that the dealer said that the factory made this mistake. I find this hard to believe, considering the checks and rechecks which get done. Do you have the VIN number for the original car? (PM me if you do.) Because if so, you can put it into https://erwin.volkswagen.de/ and find out for sure who made the mistake. It will show you what options the factory installed into the car. If it really matches your car's spec, then the factory did just "forget to install the options". If it doesn't match your car, then I'd say that the dealer made a mistake in the options entry (it happens unfortunately, it's not as "straight forward" as you'd think!).

In any case, this is one of those reasons why we advise people to check the NADCON screenshots to doublecheck that the dealer has ordered the correct options, and then to check with https://erwin.volkswagen.de/ once you have the VIN number to ensure that the correct car has been built!

                  • I am actually getting quite concerned with all the delays and unconfirmed build dates for those who have ordered GTI's way before November 2010. I'm going to be patient and wait until January before I start asking my dealer on whats going on.

I remember the promises VWA gave when they first launched the MK6 that they will make every effort to avoid the long wait times that MK5 owners had to bear, seems like it's not any different this time around.

                    • It's Christmas guys!

Lets all calm down, enjoy the holidays, and see what happens late January. Many of you guys are just working each other up with your speculation.

NO ONE gets a build date within the first month. You're kidding yourselves thinking the is "something wrong" at this stage. Even if you don't have a build date for THREE MONTHS, you can still receive your car in 6 months. The build date is really only provided in the one or two weeks prior to the car entering production! This is what has just happened for all of us with the Golf R's that arrived in November (and 1st half of December). It was a 6 month wait, and we only found out the build date after about 3 months.

So calm down, steer clear of these threads and reduce your stress
The wait will be worth it.

I can vouch for that. 'Scotch, valuim and an ugly dog to kick' got me through the 5.5 month wait.

I have to agree entirely.. patience will pay the best dividends. 3 months appears to be the norm for getting a build date and once that happens the machinery takes over. My March 1 date has supposedly pushed out but I have confidence that when the dust settles it wont be too bad. Rejoice you are in the system and for those just getting on the conveyer belt it is a longer wait.

                              • The longest wait is getting a manufacturing slot & shipping.

It only takes 2 weeks or so for the car to be built.

Chillout (we're all trying really hard here) and it will come. I've never been happier for 6 months to fly by!
