Wonder roughly how many boats they use to ship the golfs over our way and average times it takes to get from Germany to Australia for them. Also how often do they leave port in Germany bound for here??

You can search Germany to Australia on the following page to see when and what ships are leaving for Australia. Looks like the R will arrive next year for me unless a miracle happens and the car is built in the next few weeks! Guess I can't complain too much considering some of the waits you guys have had, still no harm in hoping for a miracle lol

I have a build date and my car is due in late Jan 2011 (including customs+delivery) - if you don't have a date yet you're definitely in 2011.

p.s., Just to worry you a bit more, I ordered 2 months before you hopefully there was just a backlog and you don't end up in March

Yeah thanks for that guys, Its hard enough waiting now so I think I'll just go poke myself in the eye with a burnt stick instead! Should be more fun LOL!

On the plus side I will have more time to save some money before the lease kicks in. Just hope the old family taxi holds together for a few more months now!

yeah it does sound that way, I mean its at least 41 days or thereabouts just on the boat then u have the dealer 3 week wait as well so if its not on the boat within 2 weeks I guess it will be next year. I was told that the dealer already had a slot in the system with VW they could allocate to my car and just change the specs to suit so if thats true maybe it will be quicker but at this point I have no idea of a build date as I haven't spoken to them in a few weeks.

Oh yeah I didn't consider an empty build slot - that might change things - best of luck

I don't know if that is accurate. My dealer told me that VGA have intoduced a new ordering system. In the old system some dealers put in a large number of orders expecting to get sales before they arrived, However this caused a large backlog for new "genuine" orders.
So VGA deleted any orders in the system that did not have an associated contract of sale.
This was to free up orders that were sitting in NADCOM waiting for VGA scheduling.
Hopefully one of the dealers who posts on here can confirm or deny this (Dermot?)
Anyway this is what my dealer told me, maybe its BS maybe not.

Ok Received my new White Golf R today. Manual, SatNav, ACC, Bluetooth and MDI. It is an awesome car, drove 200 km to collect it and drove home with the car. The factory bluetooth is excellent and it automatically downloads all my contacts from my iphone 4 once it is connected.

It is one awesome car. I am just speechless.
