Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Hey at least the Toreador made it to your port, I still have to wait another 5 days until it arrives in Brisbane and then another 3 weeks until i can drive it.

3 weeks is the given average for customs, adr, complaince and dealer prep.

When mine lands it will have been 97 days from ordering.
If delivery is late May, it;s close to 4 months for me.

Mine will be the same as well, at this point in time it is looking like exactly 4 months from date of order to date received.

          • 175 days.
if the latest info from my dealer is correct on it's delivery date.
i believe my car is being carved from a solid block of metal, by a man with a nail file.
            or so it would seem.

I tell myself the wait will be worth it.

I am not annoyed or pissed off in anyway that the engine is a 09 build as i understand they would have them already built and when a car is ordered they would just "grab one off the shelf" so to speak. Thats my opinion, could be wrong.

Just interested to see what year other's engine's are bult in.
Where did you find that sticker kenny? They probably built the engines first so that they can run them in before putting them into the cars?

                    • i heard a rumour that 2009 build engines had 20 more kilowatts than 2010.

no wait, i think I started the rumour...

build plate and valuations go by the date the car was married together, ie the plate in the boot.. not the date each component was manufactured.
More opportunites have been lost from indecision, rather than wrong decision....

No I haven't checked...... but does that make it a 2009 or 2010 build? Do they go by the date in the boot... because I'm thinking along the same lines as Entice.
The car build date is ithe date that the car that is actually built - the engines are slotted in once the car (which may have been built in 2010) is on the production line.

Well yeah, that is what i think as well. In the boot it says built 3rd week of Jan 2010. So it is classed as 2010.
I was just wondering how many have the same in their car.

I know for a fact that a number of years ago when I bought my WRX they actually ran the engine in for the equivalent of 100 hours and this alleviates the issue of having a service to replace the oil after 500 klm and beds the motor in. Not sure whether Golfs do the same as I could not find out when I bought my Mk5 GTI - but it would make sense with any performance engine for the manufacturer to do this. Did not have an issue with either the WRX or GTI motor from go to when I sold them - both awesome in their own right.

I hope I have the same run with the Mk6.
