The official I have ordered/received my new MKVI thread

Consider yourself lucky! My GTI landed on 31/5 but I still haven't received any word on when I can take delivery. I even asked but they just say "we'll let you know". Grrr I was hoping I could get it before the long weekend!

Finally received my GTI late this afternoon - it came in on the same boat. Which dealer? It is worth the wait - a great car. Will post some pics tomorrow.

finally got the call that all my finance had gone through at about 2:45 this afternoon (when i posted) after about 2 weeks of mucking around with paperwork nonesense (the car's just been sitting at the dealers).
Called my mate and we headed out down to Campbelltown to pick it up.
BAM !!
Friday afternoon long weekend traffic and the M5 out of the city was in gridlock. It should have been an hour's drive but we got there 7 mins before the dealer was supposed to close at 5:30. I'd called ahead and he was really cool about it and stayed open to let me take delivery, walk me through the car, check everything etc.

By that time it was well and truely dark, but I had a fantastic drive back to Sydney and the car was a dream. Soooo nice
Got home and the missus met me downstairs and I took her for a drive.
This was actually her first time in the car (having not come with me to test drive/order etc) and despite her insistence the whole time that I should have got a 'sports car' (read - 'convertible') she was really taken by the car and quite likes it.

I'm a happy camper so far

Might post some pics mon/tues - I think we'll be away for the long weekend

I bet that was a long drive and so frustrating.. How bad would it have been though being in gridlock in the new beast! I'm buying mine from Gosford so am looking forward to a nice drive home down the freeway....

Well at least I wouldn't have been stressed about not getting there in time to pick it up - and thereby NOT having it for the weekend and having to drive to Campbelltown again another time !

Awesome - congrats. When picking up my car yesterday, they'd just received a Golf R and GTD. The GTI is fantastic - what is the R going to be like? When is delivery?

Picked up my GTi yesterday, yay! Did 320 kms day 1. Silver, Detroits manual and MDI.
Went straight up the Mt Dandenongs, then went through the Black Spur to Marysville and came back through Woori Yallok. I can't believe how bare the main street of Marysville is now, I haven't been back since the Fires..its a real shame. It was a favorite spot of mine to go when I had the motorbike.

Anyway, love it, lots of fun. Going cruising on Sunday with my mate and his Red Polo GTI. Fun times.

PS. Dont buy the demo BLUE R from Barloworld in Glen Waverly. Less than 200kms on the clock myself and the salesman went for a spin...lets just say it's well and truly broken in..

Just out of curiousity, how did you guys cope with waiting for the car. Im expecting OCT and honestly, I already have ants pretty bad. And I wish it was July or something so the light at the end of the tunnel was real.. but damn it is a WHILE off.

The wait is inevitable for most people, so you just have to deal with it.

For me, I found I went through different stages, at first I was super excited, then after a couple of months I got over it a bit and lost the spark a little. But once the delivery was within a couple of weeks I was pretty excited again.

I pretty much lived on forums for 4 and a half months reading as much info as I could about the car.
