well what is the use of a commission number?

Commission number is what VW use to track the order, the preparation for the car, and the car prior to and during production. The VIN number is assign at some point during production.

It doesn't sound like the dealer gets the VIN number until the car is practically rolled off the production line and ready for shipping.

(at least that was my understanding of a post somewhere on these boards from a VW dealer).

I ordered it in mid December, the car was a pre-configured one that had already been scheduled for build.

wow - you seem to be extremely lucky to have ordered the car in Mid-December and to have it built in week 51.
That would tend to lend weight to the dealers who have said that the VW factory builds different models in batches (ie, TDI's in one week, GTI's in another etc).

              thats very quick.
              considering only 3 months.
people here have to wait 6-7 months now.

The thing you have to take into consideration is that the car i bought was one of about 30 the dealer had ordered in as stock to sell. I think they orderered them some time in november and i was able to go thru the list of cars and options that were already underway and found one that i was happy with.

I think the wait of 6-ish months is becoming pretty standard, give or take a couple of weeks.
I ordered my mid dec and I've been told that expected delivery is May, with a build week having already been allocated.

I'm surprised at the wait times I'm seeing on here. I thought I was copping it at 3.5 months!

I ordered mine during the last wk of October 09. It was a personalized build 5 Door, DSG, ACC, Dynaudio, Reverse Cam, not off a build list.

Orginally my salesman said wk 45 2009 would be build week and to expect it mid January, but that was pushed back a month, which annoyed me (I'll keep my mouth shut now I've read this thread). It's just docked in Melbourne today. Give it a few days of processing and cross fingers I'll be in it this weekend...

VW Aust originally said the wait times experienced with the Mk5 would be solved for the Mk 6 launch. I guess they haven't taken into account how many people don't want to order GTIs that have or lack options they want/don't want.

I would have though that it would take a week or so to get the car through customs and then to the dealership for pre-delivery checks, registration, etc... I think you should have it sometime next week.

Yeh, I think VW did underestimate the demand for the Mk6 and supply just hasn't been able to keep up.
Oh well, make the wait more worth it (???), that's what I tell myself anyway...

Yeah, takes 10-12 working days from the car docks til delivery from what i've been told.

Has to be Offloaded, then Complianced, transported to the dealer, PD'd etc.

Makes the wait more worth it???

I've been telling myself that every day since September 09 when I walked in, asked about the Mk6 and was greeted with 4 blank stares from a few salesmen.

I didn't really think I'd be in it by the weekend but dare to dream.

It is probably the demand for the mk6 as it is wining almost every award possible.

It could also be the other models increasing in popularity and the production of the Amarok.

It is also likely to be the fact that not everyone wants an optioned up beast which seems to be the only cars VWA imports, rather than a variety of vehicles in different specs.

It does give one the chance to purchase the supporting mods to whittle away the time, i know that is what i am doing.
1 mod per month to get me through the 5 month wait lol.
