  • The R has items as standard which are optional for the GTI. ie Bi-xenon lights, parking sensors, 18" rims off the top of my head. If you were to spec a GTI with these options you would get around a $5k difference. I am sure some else will crunch the numbers exactly.

    • Okay, thanks, ravun; I overlooked the bi-xenons and 18" rims - - - that's ~$3200 alone . . . and then PDC, so there you go. Too bad it's not leather and roof that are standard instead, then I really might consider springing for the extra $5k . . .

      • Thats only if you want the bi xenons sensors 18's and whatever else comes standard with the r, some people just want a standard gti, so there is a big cash difference between the r and gti.

Also, buddy, as kpatel85 has clarified that he is getting a DSG (poor sod), what discount are you applying when you mention "same percentage discount" as at the time you had your doubts as to which one applied?
That post was from a few months ago, but the answer to your question was in the post where kpatel85 clarified he was getting the DSG, so not sure why you're asking again...

But for your information (as it has been discussed on the first page of the Golf R Specs and Prices thread), when you tally up the cost of the "GTI options" which are included as standard in the Golf R, there is only $4400 difference in price between the GTI and the R. That $4400 gets you AWD, more power & torque plus strong engine internals and a K04 turbo, better brakes, better suspension, front LED DRLs, and those highly sought-after rear LEDs that GTI owners are paying ~$1000 to get shipped over here and installed. Plus the difference in looks (positive or negative depending on personal opinion) and many other little changes/additions.

But as 240z mentioned, some GTI purchasers just want a stock standard GTI without any of the options which are standard in the R though, at which point $9500 is a fair differentiation....

Simply because at the time you applied the "same percentage discount" to the R you did not believe that kaptel85 was able to negotiate the discount he did of well over 17%.

            • I dont think that there is an issue with the price or the discount. I think the dealers have a bit more "room" to move with the GTI's in my experience.

When I was getting a GTI originally, I know I could get a much better price at about 3 different dealers, than the price I could get for the R (% wise).

About 16% for the GTI vs a lot less (undisclosed) for the R.

And as you can see the from kpatels name, If he is infact indian, he will be awesome at dealing by nature!!

Where some people dont have the barganing skills, nor the head, to deal.

Dealers are people too, and If they dont like you thats it. Out of the 4 dealers I went to, One in particular, (chatswood) would not budge and gave a deal that bad where I actually was going to buy a different car (I am that sensitive).

Where the others came within about $500 of each other and I just went with the best guy.

PS the wait for my car is killing me. I am bored as F%$# without it.

Indeed, i am Indian. Good observation...
I actually only went to one dealer and got the stock standard price with probably a $1K discount.

                Then....here's the trick
I called up Barloworld (wont disclose which one). Told them i wanted a fleet price and asked the poor dealer on the phone that i would give him my credit card number if he could do it fully optioned (minus the rear camera - waste of money in my opinion), with euro plates, tints & factory bluetooth for $54K (I just took off a nice round figure from the first dealer - $12K) and gave him my phone number, told him to talk to his boss and call me back if he could do it. I knew he would be able to do it, but I told him either way i was going to buy a car today.

He came back to me an hour later with $56,550 drive away. I gave him a $500 deposit (yep $500 - the other $500 is better staying in my account to earn interest in my opinion) over the phone, went in that arvo and signed the paper and the rest was history.

Its true that people make a judgement on you the second they see you. Thats why its better to do things by the phone. I literally was on the phone to him for 10 minutes total. Using Corying's GTI calculator its a 16.55% saving from retail price (or in $ terms >$11K). If I can do it anyone can!

REXman - I can feel your pain. The waiting game is hard. Mine arrives on the 6th Sept and should be ready for collection the week after

                • I'm bad with reading spreadsheet, but I got mine for $46k driveaway with factory bluetooth and sunroof, no nav, no leather, no dynaudio - probably not the best deal from Camberwell Volks but if it wasn't the 6 months wait that I can't do if I want a proper optioned car from factory (needed the car pretty much straight away as I sold my old grey import car way too fast/early than expectation - about 4 months too early than I expected in a stale 2nd hand grey import market), I've got not much choice.

                  • Best gti deal in brisbane?

Hope you knowledgable folk can help me please.

Looking into Gti purchase and hoping someone might know the best place to strike a deal?

Is there a new model coming out soon?

What sort of drive away pricing would represent a spectacular deal?

                    Thanks a lot.

                    • MK7 is earmarked to arrive in 2012... question is if you're willing to wait that long...

                      • Just out of curiosity, when would the new R be coming out considering the current one isn't really out other than the lucky handful that scored theirs.. Cause this is the first year of the models release right?

As far as I know the R32 had a good 5 year life didn't it?

                        • The MK7 was originally going to be out 2nd half of 2011 in Europe. Since the MK6 is really only the "MK5.5", it was never meant to have a long run. However, considering how well the MK6 has been going, they've pushed back the MK7 release to 2012. This means whilst we may see the MK7 in 2012 in Australia, we may not see it until 2013. The GTI could therefore be late 2013, the R 2014 etc.

The R32 was introduced in 2006, about 3 years after the MKV first hit Australia - so it only really had a 3 to 4 year run here.

                          • So 2013 for the new R at the earliest right?

Ok that sounds more like it.

I can bear to have an outdated version (like all the MKV owners now), that is if I have had my car for a few years and I have enjoyed it - thats consumerism and the bastards have us by the nads!

But as for a new model coming out in 2013 even 2014!?!?! Ill probably be able to upgrade by then If its good enough. If I'm not dead!

And I wont be suprised If the new deal is even better. I mean look at what the new R's RRP did to the resale of the R32. New car, better in almost in every way (other than for those hanging on to the sound - which I can agree is good though) and cheaper.

Watch for the MKVII R to be $44K, RWD biased AWD, 240kw and 410nm torque while bringing in 6.5l/100km..

But lets not get ahead of ourselves, as long as the MKVI's will be the stuff for around 3-4 years im ok with that.

Any R ordered now takes about that long to deliver anyway, doesn't it?

Sorry to hear you did not get specify the RVC, KP.

All things considered, for $500 the RVC is a no-brainer on any Golf fitted with an RCD510 display, let alone one costing $57k and worth close to $70k! On resale you'll probably find many people wondering why you have every option but the RVC (which could make your car less appealing and cost you a sale).

The RVC makes a lot of sense on a number of levels: protecting your investment (less risk of backing into something) and safety of third parties and property (not running over a child or items left behind the car). At the very least the RVC offers entertainment value every time the badge pops up when it operates and for covert spying operations!

If I were you, I would have it added if at all possible as a factory option. You won't regret it in the long run and it is cheap against bi-xenons which will add relatively little at resale time whereas the camera could well add its entire purchase cost when you sell the car.

I wouldn't acquire a Mark VI GTI without one! And based on some other posts I am not alone: http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/f112...-48234-10.html
