  • I ordered my GTI in Mid March, and its on a ship as we speak. its due to dock in Melbourne on 16th of June, so by the time it gets off the docks, go through customs, and pre deliveries it should be ready for pick up by mid july (which is what the dealer has stated to me), but im giving them until late July just incase it takes abit longer to get here or something.

Which is ALOT less then the October pick up date I was originally told!!!

Custom car I ordered is in my sig, CANNOT WAIT!!!

Feb sounds insane but we shall see.

I dont know If I can maintain the excitement.. for 9 months!!

Those sales people are smoking something or you've asked for a 2011 compliance plate car. I was told 6 months worst case, and they are on track to deliver in 4 months.

      Which dealer told you this?

      • Agree, that is plainly wrong info to be passing onto a client. I spoke with my car buyer today (not going through a dealership) and he was able to get my custom slotted in this weeks production through VW. So if I/he can do that, then why cant this dealer??? Something is not right at all. Max 12 weeks at the moment all things going smoothly.

Rexman, I think you have converted me, cant argue with common sense. Ditto with the test drive, I dont think I'll buy another "Aussie performance car" the quality/dynamic divide is too great. Besides I have all the pure grunt factor out of my system now. Comfort is good.
Ask some questions and clarify this with your dealer. Let me know how you go.

        • Feb delivery is pretty crazy, you'd almost want to wait and get a 2011 build. 9 months sounds too long - they're not making a baby .

          • I was told yesterday when I picked up my GTI that the wait is 8-9 months now.

fark that! No way in hell i'd be waiting on that. I almost topped myself waiting 5 months (and I was promised 3 when we signed)

Intresting because I was told October, and the dealer called me and said to expect a Mid July Delivery.

I checked the VIN Number and the car is on its way to south Africa as we speak and is due to dock in Melbourne on the 14th of June.

So even if it arrives late July, its still MONTHS ahead of what I was told...

              Not bad.

Your car buyer has to order it through a dealer. The dealer has to order it through VWA. There is now way he was able to get you into that slot because he was special but it was because the car was already scheduled to be built as per those specs and hadn't been sold yet so it was available to any dealer.

Australia is only given a certain number of build slots each year and an early 2011 delivery is possible if there are enough orders in the system, a January/February delivery means a October/November/maybe early December build. The R's would be coming off the same production line as well I assume so this would further put pressure on times.

It was from Mascot. New guy, I think a trainee. But the sales manager confirmed it?

Maybe it was to get me to pick up the fully specc'd model they had there? Fair enough but I went with what I needed because their car had things like reverse help parking and sunroof in black where I wanted Carbon Steel, Xenons, Dynaudio and Chassis control.

The guy seemed pretty good though and If it can come quicker I can only hope he does something better for me.

Thats almost where Im at with it. The longest I have ever waited is 4 months for a car. And I dont know If can look at JPEGs of it for a year. What if something else comes out by then!?! lol

I assume they just say a longer time as a 'worse case' so they won't get disgruntled customers if it's not there when they say.

It helps if you don't think about it much, and get your mind on other stuff.. some new hobbies perhaps . It could be worth asking around if there is any stock that is close to your spec but probably wouldn't be.

Mascot tried the "here's the written quote - we got a deal - yes - oops, sorry mate we did the pricing on a 3 door not a 5 door my manager says that'll be another $1500 thanks - what, don't tell me you're going to walk away for a measly $1500 - oh ok don't walk, my manager will honour the original quote" trick on me. I walked.

There are better dealers out there mate.

                          • When I got the "oops" phone call, my first thought was immediately "oh, let me guess how this is going to play out". I was right.

                            • Yes Mav I know. It is important to disseminate the difference between options available to those who want to order a VW or any car for that matter. I was simply sick of wading through and dissecting the truth from chaff I was getting from the dealers (not all but some). I found in my situation (being away for extended periods) that I could rely on the buyer to work for me. He put it out to tender which also opened up all the secured slots the dealers had as well. Useful information for the forum members, no?
