If you purchased a Golf R in the same spec (but with RVC as the R doesn't come with Park Assist but has the the Front/Rear PDC as standard), the "Drive Away" cost with the same % discounts kpatel85 has been quoted for the GTI would be $61,512.46 - or a $4962.46 premium over the GTI.

The other thing is, as people have been saying in numerous threads, the R has different driving characteristics to the GTI...

Not much a difference in the whole scheme of things especially if you putting the car on finance, probably only a few dollars more a week.
Those driving characteristics make the R a better drive over the GTI IMO. The $5000 difference in cost is negligible if you are having more fun driving the R. Some will argue that a Stage 1 tune will improve the GTI but the same will be said of the R. You will need to spend more than $5K to improve the GTI to a point where it will surpass the R with an $800 stage 1 tune(which you can't actually). So the R is better value IMO.

If I was a MkVI GTI owner, I'd be kicking myself now for not waiting those few extra months before the introduction of the R. And as we have seen recently, many will try to justify their decisions by putting down or playing down how good the R is at every opportunity.

As to the issue of rattles, it looks as though the revisions brought about in the MKVI interior haven't banished them either.

I wonder if the people that mention rattles are mainly the ones who opted for the 18`s. What do you all reckon? Anyone with the stock 17`s that suffers from rattles? Maybe the suspension isn`t designed to go with the 18`s (they are an option)...hence leading to the issues?

All I know is, I went for a nice drive yesterday....well, an attempt for a nice drive...through Hunter Valley....roads are smooth, but have that ``chunky`` concrete feeling (i.e. looks like little rocks flattened out....hope you all know what I`m talking about). For two hours straight, my entire dash vibrated like mad. I was on the brink of insanity, if I haven`t passed that stage yet that is. After a while, I just opened the roof all the way, and cranked up the music to avoid hearing the car. I ended up with a severe headache from the cold and loud music =)

I have stock 17"s and the only rattles I have are from the dealer not installing my door panels back in properly after fitting my dealer fitted tints!

The Bluefin tune costs around $800, but is for a single tune with a hand held unit which you keep and use switch back to stock if required.

The APR tune though on the GTI does have the option of a few different remaps selectable via the cruise control.

I am not sure what the costs of the other alternatives are yet (ie Revo, GIAC, etc).

You get it from one of the other tuner companies. APR aren't the only company, just the most well known with the most active prescence on these forums (and I guess Australian market place in general)

I've no idea of the prices of all of them but there are companies like:
Revo, Bluefin, Superchips, Giac, Unitronic, Oettinger, ABT and others!

Golf GTI Price Calculator Spreadsheet

Hi Guys,

I've updated my Golf R calculator spreadsheet for the 2010-2011 financial year, so I thought I'd also make one for the GTI.

The spreadsheet can be used to show you the exact "RRP Drive-away price" for your configuration including "onroads", whilst simultaneously allowing you to see what the discount you've been able to negotiate equates to once all the onroads are accounted for.

It contains a "State Selector Drop-Down Box" which adjusts the spreadsheet for all 8 States and Territories. It automatically switches to the correct stamp duty calculation and also provides information and links on the "onroad" costs of Rego, CTP Insurance (or your State's equiv) and Plates. Once you've determined your onroads, you must manually type them into the required fields.

On a "completely unoptioned Golf GTI, the resulting figures of this spreadsheet match the Volkswagen website pricing to within $100 (as prices can vary on post code and age and the exact dealer delivery average, it's impossible to get it 100% accurate as the Volkswagen's site doesn't break down the costs they use for calculation).

Compared to actual dealer quotes (mine, several other members who have offered their information to improve the spreadsheet), it's accurate to within +/- 1c. Although I must put in the disclaimer that some of the states have "interesting" stamp duty and rego/insurance/plate conditions (WA & SA & NT) and I can't find any info on the internet which shows the price of standard plates in ACT.

So if anyone notices any errors etc, or if you would like to privately share the breakdown of your quote to help with the spreadsheet, feel free to PM me and I'll make the appropriate changes.

Let me start off by saying your calculator is spot on!
It matched almost everything on my tax invoice and is very handy to work out the total savings from the RRP.

I tweaked the calculator to match my invoice and here's mine below:

Your dealer delivery sounds like it's a corporate discount - $1495 (inc GST) is very good if it isn't a corp discount! I assume you figured you could put $1359.09 into C31 to calculate your saving with that figure.
Your Sat Nav with Dynaudio equates to $3,500 (inc GST, type that into D26). I've argued before that this is the price it SHOULD be on the GTI, but at launch it was $3800, and many dealers are still charging that. I'll put a note that it can be $3500. NSW Rego went up $1 from July 1... the bastards

Go to a dealer and negotiate...
Walking into a dealer and saying "on the internet/forums they say I should get $x" is the quickest way to get a crap price and service around

How does the difference between an R with same options get whittled down to just $5k (when the R is around $10k more)?

Also, buddy, as kpatel85 has clarified that he is getting a DSG (poor sod), what discount are you applying when you mention "same percentage discount" as at the time you had your doubts as to which one applied?
