  • CarSales new car showroom function is really good for getting an initial price on things, it shows the price for each model, the options and the avg dealer delivery and taxes for your state. Its good to see if they're overcharging for options or dealer delivery.

Heres the link for a 5dr GTI DSG New Volkswagen Golf Hatch Specs

Also never feel like you should stick with a dealer, especially is the service is sub-par. If they don't have the time for your custom don't give it. I learnt that from the various dealers in Brisbane thats for sure!

I am in sales and for me and I think a lot of other woul agree service equals sales.
If you are time poor then fax a selection of dealers with your spec & prefered colors. See who gets back to you.

Some sales folk are a bit tunnel-vision & think that you can only get a sale if the customer is sitting across the desk from them & they make 6 phone calls to the manager to approve the "amazing price" they have quoted.

      • I am in Canberra, and am trying to work out whether it is worth going to the trouble of buying from Sydney, or just buying from one of the two dealers here. Looking for MY12.5 GTI DSG, with nav, leather, carbon grey.

Any advice from Canberra GTI buyers?

Go to Lennock and see Cal Bruton. He's cool and won't mess around with you. I bought my R from him. If you're a sports fan look him up on Wikipedia before you go, he'll give you an autograph if you ask nicely. If you work for the government the odds are you're eligible for Corporate pricing, it takes the hassle out of haggling and will put you very close to their best price, check up on that.

I think it's important to support local jobs if reasonable to do so when purchasing. If you end up purchasing out of Canberra check on the stamp duty and rego implications before committing.

          • I bought my gti from Sydney, only because I wasn't completely happy with the dealer service at the time. Since Gerald slaven have opened in belco, I think that it might be worth seeing what an be done locally as there is no longer the monopoly. In saying that, it wouldn't hurt to give a couple of Sydney dealers a call.

            • Very happy with the pricing/service I received from Trent @ Gerald Slaven.

Even Canberra Motorcycle Centre beat Sydney prices when a bought a Suzuki a few years back.

Agreed! Support local jobs.....I can see the placards now on Josephson Street!

                  • Opinion on 2012 dsg GTI dealer price

                    G'day Guys

I've got the option to jump on a fully loaded up GTI (my order is months away) and wanted an opinion on the price I've been offered (after all there are some serious negotiators on this forum!). I have standard corp discount. Vehicle details as follows:

                    2012 5-dr DSG GTI with:
                    Bi-xenons
Sat Nav and Dynaudio (what is the bundled price of this?)
                    Detroits
                    Sunroof
                    Leather.

Price I've got is $53,000 on road. (on road price w/o discount on this as far as I can guesstimate is about $59,000 tho dealer says $61.5k!).

I think he can do a bit better, but your thoughts would be appreciated.

                    cheers

                    Andrew

                      Hi Andrew,

                      Is it a 3 or 5 door?

If we take that as 5 door, that is a good price IMO. Yes it will be close to $60K (without any discount).

I got mine for the similar price with the options in my signature below.

Sat Nav + Dynaudio is around $3,500.

Good luck and keep us informed.

                      Cheers,
