if i were you i would grab a 5 door, better for re-sale value.
3 door is no longer availbale. just got sold.
there are only 3 cars in white 3 door manual gti that are coming to austarlia 2 of them will dock at the end of march for april delivery and they dont have 18" detroit wheels.

the 5 door manual is a MY12. which has bluetooth and mdi as standard.

I know that VW (at least here in QLD) is offering 2011 run out specials on cars (except for Polo GTI and Golf R).

So I would think that there would have to be some additional discount for cars currently on sale as there are no 2012 build cars available till April, irrespective of corporate discount or not. I understand that the mid year sales are the same as corporate (or close to), but if there was no discount offered for the 2011 build run out even with corporate applied, then why would someone pay the same for a car which is essentially a year old and would get priced downward accordingly come selling time?

I think I might move back to VW.

Initially had a 118TSI then moved to a XR5.

So now I am thinking of a 3dr GTI. Had a look on carsales and didnt see any. Hopefully there are still some in stock as I cant wait longer than a few weeks for a new car once I move the XR5.

The main thing I am after is a 3dr Manual in White (or that gun metal colour) and 18" detroits. Depending on prices, wouldnt mind reverse camera, maybe leather (but i doubt it would fit in my price), but its not critical. What other items do people recommend.

Anyway, my budget is $40k. Ideally I would just like the 3dr manual + detroits for around $38k. Is this too much to ask for?

You should be able to get a good deal on a 2011 build 3dr gti. My mate bought his 3dr gti off the floor last December. His specs are.

Mate, $39500 drive away! No change over. My11.5 so BT and MDI were optional extra. Just because you can't do an awesome deal doesn't mean other dealers won't. Believe what you want, they were eager to move it on.
