    • Ant - wouldve been easier to list which options you dont have! lol

OP - Whilst its great that you got a good deal, i have to agree you are going to get shafted everytime you go back for a service.

Recently purchased from McGrath at liverpool and they were more concerned with getting our after sales business (2 VWs to service) than selling me the Polo. Everything since the test drive of the car has been geared towards how they can look after me post purchase.

You are going to get jack ****, but good on you for saving a dollar or two.

No no, you're all getting it wrong. He pounded the table at Glen Waverley and made the salesman sweat at South Yarra.

Honestly though, if the dealer can't do the price the OP wants, the dealer is not obligated to keep negotiating.

Wdong- I suggest if you have not already, make sure you go back and ask that the delivery date be stated in the contract, and if that is not fulfilled, they will then need to give you a courtesy car. Hope it all works out for you.

Yeah sure they're going to change the legally binding contract because the awesome negotiator forgot to put that clause in. As for the loan car I'm sure they will offer that after he screwed them down and acted as he did.

Whilst he's at it why doesn't he ask for leather to be thrown in on top and perhaps the three year warranty? He's an adult and he signed the contract, why would the dealer who agreed to the price based on the details in that contract now change the contract and potentially expose themselves to additional costs if there is a delay in the delivery of the car?

That's how I like to do things too, go with the guy who genuinely offers the best deal up front, not the one who undercuts the others once he knows their price.

              • Thanks to everyone, the contract states that the delivery date is 30 April,

because I collected many information from here and read every thread possibile and the data sheet, i get this deal just because your guys price helped me, so I made my target, my goal is only reach 13% off, so when i did it, i stopped.

i dont want to show off my price, i just want to share the information to the ppl who wants to buy, at first, i really dont know how much profit they are making and how much i can get down! even when i made the 48500 at glen waverley, i still thinking they are making profits! but i reached my 13% off target, but just because the manager and the sales person made me angry, and that manager told me, with this price, i can deal but the delivery will be july! wtf! i said ok, as long as you agree the price, i can wait until August!! then i told him i am going for a lunch then come back for deal. we are not fighting, but just the climate during the neg. process. it was like a war between us. lol

after a short lunch with my gf, we thought we should try South Yarra, we put it as our last hope, as we heard from a friend in this fourm, south yarra vw has the reputation for beating everyone's price.

we went there, spent two hours, the sales person just can not get down the price to 48500, he said this price is really really out of his control, the system asking him input a password to get access this price because it is below the cost.

then at this stage, i start felt that we might get a really really good deal, i told him, just beat the price and we secure the car. he went into manager's room three times but can only to match the price.

later the manager came out and ask this sales person "everything alrite?" (the sales person looks really nervous), i yelled this manager and ask him for a help. he look the screen and input the password, about 2 mins, he told me, "we are making a $16xx loss on this car, but just increase a sales unit, and may receive a kick back from the vw head office."

2 mins later, he said" even you are going back to Glen Waverley, they might say this deal was wrong, and made some mistakes, or delay the delivery date (match the words said by glen's manager), he might receive your car in april or may then sell it at a higher price for profit, then your car probably will arrive in August! listen, if you are willing to pay 48750 (250 more than glen), i secure your car delivery in late April! we put the delivery date into the contract and i give you a free tank of fuel, how about this?!

                ......
                ......
                ......

we have thought it for 2mins, then we said yes.

so that, finally we get 48500, i am so happy with south yarra, they are much better serviced you than Glen! i'd rather to pay bit higher but i can secure my car. now my contract stated the delivery date is 30 April then we been told by the business manager, our car maybe arrived in early May, but it will definitely before June! he will give me a track number after two weeks time, then i can track my car!

that's it! i just hope my thread and price can help out someone else like me. you try hard, you can get good deal, i was very nice to the sales in glen waverly, because he made so many mistakes (such as reject my 42800 offer then made me a 42600 offer for the car....faint! what's wrong with him... i just caught his mistake and confuted him!)

at last, does anyone want to join my wedding by driving your GTi?!!
just enjoy the food and party. lol. im serious

Yeah that's a great price, but the LCT has as much to do with the 16% discount than anything else. As your car would've been over $57k, for every $3 the dealer discounted, the LCT takes off another $1 or 33%.

                  Go Denlo

correct me if im wrong, but dont you get the VIN for tracking, which is given around 2 weeks before the build date?

If this is the case, i dont think you will have your VIN in 2 weeks

                      • While they may put a April 30 delivery date, that does not mean you will necessarily get it then (or even in May). If they do not fulfill their end of the contract, you have the right to rescind. But where does that leave you? Most ppl probably won't cancel if they have already been waiting for a few months, and "what's a couple of months more"? The dealers know this... and take their chances you won't walk. If you do, there's plenty who will take your place.

Honestly, that's poor form. You were in the middle of negotiating with one dealer and then decide to jump to another dealer. And you told them you were going to "come back" after lunch "for a deal". When I am for consumers getting the best deal, screwing dealers around isn't the way. Don't forget these guys sell cars for a living - they're not giving them away for peanuts. A little respect goes a long way on both sides of the negotiating table.

I agree with you somewhat, but they didnt have to do the deal. If his behaviour was as he has said, they had the option to ask him to leave. I am in sales and if the deal had played out like this and i was getting screwed i would have said, final offer on the table, take it or leave it.

Again i agree, it's not how i do business (buying) but the dealer is as at fault as he is by agreeing to the terms, no-one had a gun to his head.

I agree with the other posters that the relationship with the dealer may not be as strong going forward, but the dealers with servicing facilites are going to want his business going forward regardless.
