  • I find it odd that the salesman would tell you to put up his name on the forum. If you screwed him down to the ground, there's no way he would want you to tell others how much you paid and where from....... unless he is a great actor and did make money out of you.

    • You delivery will be in May-June - u can bet on that!!!!

The problem is, the way you have done business you wont get any "extra" service fromn the sealer now - You will be known as the tight prick who plays dealers off with each other...

Thats my number 1 rule when negotiating - I never ever play them off with each other.... That ****s me

      • lol @ that price - I cannot imagine him really making jack **** on this deal.

I'm sure the dealership themselves made plenty (as with all purchases), but the salesman may not have.

I'd prefer to go through life being nice to people and have them show me the same respect. At the end of the day, most people will negotiate with the dealer for the lowest price both parties are comfortable with - and they won't pay more than they can afford. Only the truly stingy or arrogant will try to squeeze every last cent out of a stone regardless of how they act.
It's not stingy, it's the way that we Asian people negotiate a good deal, and when we say good deal, it's the last drop of every cent we can get.. that's how we are, and that's how it's going to be unfortunately..

you have done well.. there is plenty of money in the deal that the dealer is making.. i would do the same thing as well.. i will squeeze for the ultimate last dollar that i can get... bottom line is , the money is better kept in your pocket rather than theirs.

                  • I think delivery for a car ordered now is highly unlikely for a April delivery. I spoke to my dealer last night and he was saying that they are already quoting mid to late May deliveries for new orders... unless they are trying to match you with something that they know will be built?

Also, I agree with MurphyTheElf, with his point above. There is a point where you know that you're waisting everyone's time. I imagine that dealer & sales guy won't enjoy 10 others going to him saying give me the same deal, costing him $1.6k per deal... I imagine VGA won't enjoy that.

Exactly, two people you never want to piss off are the salesperson and the mechanic...

not really true, every ppl want to get a good deal, and also this is why the dealer hire more asian sales to dealing with asian customer.

                          • Congrats mate!
if the dealer agrees the deal it means they can make profit!

                            • Agreed, you have to look at the big picture; I could have driven around Melbourne playing dealers off against each other and screwed another $1000 out of the deal - for me time is money, so I wsnt interested, not to mention after sales support. Ive had a couple of things come up with a car we bought last year and the dealership did it for free (accessories I wanted fitted post delivery), not to mention accessories that were sold to me at trade price

The other issue with screwing the dealer down so hard is that with a popular car like the GTI the car order may end up getting allocated to someone who paid more (and represents more margin for the dealer) and your order can slip down the priority list....... Until you get the VIN (usually a week or two before production from memory) you really dont have any certainty as to where you sit in the production schedule

I can tell you that dealers dont like names and prices posted on forums for obvious reasons, so Im surprised the guy said to post his name and sales prices here....

So if your happy experiencing an extra long delivery, paying top dollar for post sales parts and accessories, not having loan vehicles around when you need them, along with being relegated down the list when it comes to service......yeah, you got the best price

Im on my 5th Audi/VW btw....

sorry, when it comes to bar and food, we are also very open in digging deep into our pockets.. as far as we are concern when it comes to treating our friends and business associates, money is secondary, when comes to negotiating a good deal we are very tight and we will squeeze every cent.. period..
