  • sounds great - if you really want a manual car. Remember that manuals are harder to move so dealers are more willing to budge on price - but that means worse resale value.

Over 75-80% of GTIs sold are DSG - although if you find a used car buyer wanting a manual only, you are in luck

    • I wonder if there is still $2500 difference in price between the manual and DSG on a 3 year old GTI though?

      • i would say it could be greater as there are less buyers and hence a seller needs to drop the price to make it more attractive.

No different when trading in - the dealer will price it lower as it will hang around longer in stock - they also need to factor in the cost of carry (e.g. bank interest, opportunity cost of capital etc) as they all use short term floor plan financing for stock.

Ever wonder why prestige cars get smashed on trade ins, and the dealer markup is like 30%?

holy jeebus, thats an awesome price, ur paying $1500 more than i did, and ur getting a 5dr, acc, detroit wheels and reverse camera. i would be running to put money down on it.
as far as reliabilty goes, ive done a shade over 9000km now since new and the only issue has been the whistle from the water pump which was replaced under warranty. now issues or problems with it besides that. its been very livable, like a honda, and im a honda guy.
dont listen to people dissing the manuals. plenty of buyers would prefer manuals, but are often swayed by resale/ spouses that cant drive for **** and general laziness. manual is pure driving

          • EXCELLENT price , about 8% buy manual GTI , real men , no problem shifting my last manual , country dealers welcome them .

One of the best manuals you can get , very slick changes out on the B roads .

            • Seems like a good price. I paid $3k more for vienna instead of camera, and MY12.

The Golf is such a nice example of a manual... The clutch and tranny felt so natural to me - it all springs together nicely and you can't beat the feeling of shifting down and blasting up the revs, especially around corners.

Actually surprises me that the manual slice is so much smaller.. for commodores and falcons etc. I can understand because the manual is so mediocre in comparison.

              • Wondering on opinions:

Golf GTI manual, 5 dr, metallic paint, ACC, Detroit wheels, new MY12 - 43k driveaway

                OR

                GTI Edition 35 manual, 5dr, pearl paint - 44k

Much prefer ACC but then again extra power would be nice - are either good?

                • Between those two, I would take the ED35 in a flash.

Sounds like dealers are starting to budge on the ED35's when previously the ones I spoke to, in Sydney at least, had a very non-negotiable attitude on them given their limited run. 6 weeks ago the dealers I spoke to wouldn't budge away from $48k for an ED35.

Think of it this way.. take 1.5k off for the ACC and the GTI is 41.5k.. .that's only $2.5k to get an ED35... Bearing in mind the ED35's are essentially a midpoint between GTI's and R's in terms of performance... it looks like a good deal to me.

The golf-ball gearstick alone is worth it.

                    mazstar1980,

                    It all depends on you!

On one side you have a "Ed 35 GTI" with bi-xenon headlights with DRLs, 18 inch unique looking wheels, LED tail lights, MDI and Bluetooth standard (at 173 kW).

On the other hand you have a Metallic GTI with ACC (very nice technology), Detroit 18 inch wheels MY12 - MDI & BT standard (155 kW).

How important is the color for you? Do you really like ACC?

I would say drive both and buy the one you are comfortable with! One that meets most of your requirements (if not all!)

                    Good luck... Cheers,

whereas the ed 35 just has "more" stuff for the money

                            ^ agreed!

The bi-xenon lights with LED DRLs alone would convince me to choose the ed35 over the normal gti! plus, it's limited edition!

My Jetta 147 felt slow and under powered (yes, I know, 2 different cars!) after driving my friend's ed35.

                            • Hi guys, a noobie here!! My BF Falcon XR6 TURBO is coming to the end of lease this month. I no longer require a family sized car as the kids have got their own cars now, and the wife has a Lancer Aspire if I need a full/medium sized 4/5 seat vehicle with a boot. Soooo, with the caveats of: <=$45k, 0-100 <= 7secs, 4/5 door, leather, satnav and AUTO/DSG/SST there are only three FG TURBO derivative (family sized tho... so maybe not), Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart (Ride and build quality not that good tho apparently), GOLF MK6 GTI.

Have contacted a dealer here in Adelaide, saying that I am ready to buy, but he is competing against the FG FALCON XR6 TURBO with LUXURY PACK which is $43k drive-away (through carsales.com.au in QLD). He has offered me the following deal:

MY11 GOLF 5DOOR GTI DSG (NEW)
                              VIENNA Leather
                              RNS-510
                              MDI
                              BLUETOOTH
                              12 months registration

                              Driveaway $45,500.
Any opinions on the sharpness or otherwise of this price??

                              Any input appreciated.

Have you spoken to Duttons up at Murray Bridge? Personally I found them much better to deal with and I got the following:

                                MY12 5DOOR GTI DSG (NEW)
                                VIENNA Leather
                                RCD-510 (std)
                                MDI (std in MY12)
                                BLUETOOTH Std in MY12)
                                12 months registration

For 45K driveaway. Now the MY11s are now 6months+ old and so worth that much less than the MY12s

Talk to Duttons and I'm betting that you would get it for less than that. Added to that is the fact that they will come down, pick up your car and drop off a courtesy car, give it a service and return it all included in the standard servicing price. Pretty good service in my opinion

                                Cheers,
