That seems like an excellent deal with the servicing included! In 2008 I tried to get a Mk V Pacific TDI DSG for $35k and the dealer basically said there was no chance, walked across the road (to Subaru) and bought something else (which was the wife's first choice).
Do you guys reckon I can pick one up for 40k? I would be content with a 3dr (Black or Carbon Steel/DSG)
Drive away in VIC, depending on your CTP and Plate style, the cost would be around $47,215 for a 3dr GTI with DSG and metallic paint. So you'd need to negotiate about a 15% discount to get it for $40k drive away. 15% has been achieved before, but usually with "higher spec" GTI's where there is more room (via the options, and sometimes the crossing of tax barriers) to allow a large discount to be achieved.
I got a 5dr DSG with MDI and detroit wheels (but no metallic paint) for $43k.
So you might be able to get close to 40k for a 3dr and no other options. Maybe even less if you get a manual.
Wow, $43k is quite a good deal with the options listed How long was that ago? Was that with Corp discount and if you don't mind, may I ask which dealer was that
Yeah, a $43k drive away is about a 13.3% discount (depending on where you live - VIC registration fees appear to be different depending on your postcode due to a variable "Transport Accident Charge" component of the registration, which I believe is VIC's version of CTP).
So it's not too much more than what Timmy10 is being 'handed' by the EOFY sale and a few % less than what he wants to achieve by getting his 3dr DSG at $40k drive away...

Signed the contract last week. No corp discount. It was at VW Berwick. Car should arrive mid-June, can't wait!
I also had another offer of $45500 at VW Glen Waverly. That one had metallic paint and reversing camera also, but the berwick deal was better and it was the colour I wanted (white).
Thanks for the replies guys. How I wished this kind of information was available when I was shopping for a car previously! During MKV days, whenever there was a driveaway deal, there was always a disclaimer stating that the deal does not apply to GTI or R32!

Thanks for the info hazamatic, much appreciated. I heard that Burwin VW in Ferntree Gully have quite good deals as well. My mate bought a MKV 3 door white GTI with DSG only for $38k back in November 2008 from VW Glen Waverley. She was lucky cos she went it towards the end of the day and they had not made a single sale for that day. After reading through this thread, deals like that seem quite common nowadays! Does that mean that supply has increased more than demand for the MKVI compared to the MKV?
Not sure about the supply and demand, but the dealers I spoke to made it sound like the gti was in high demand. Talked about 5 month waiting lists and told me I was extremely lucky they had a car available in mid-June. But then of course that is what they would say
I think with the sale on now you can get lower prices than you normally would...
Just purchased VW Golf 118tsi with DSG, metallic paint, window tint, mdi with ipod cable, tank of fuel, floor mats and boot mat for $32,500. Based on my calcs, it looks like its about 11-12% discount.
How did I go with my deal? Any thoughts will be appreciated.
