  • 90 or 118 - it's all good!

I've given this some time and really thought about this. If I compare 118TSI (no opts) vs 90TSI (with comfort pack) basically for 2-3k more I will be getting "Comfort Seats", Chrome trims on the grill and more power and torque. I felt that 90TSI had plenty enough power and torque (well, to me anyway). I never tested or seen the "comfort seats" but, correct me if Im wrong, I thought that they both are cloth seats anyway how much more "comfortable" can they be? Chrome grills look good but at the end of the day Im not too bothered about not having them really. I could be wrong but I cant really justify forking out another 2-3k for these extras. So I think Im going to stick with 90TSI.
I have to say that I had a bit of panic after ordering my 90TSI also, thinking that I should've spent a bit more for the 118TSI. But where does it end? You could spend a bit more on the 118, or a lot more and get the GTI! Also, budget wise, we worked out how much we were willing to spend, and stuck to it.

Anyhow, I picked up the 90TSI last Wednesday, and I have to say, I'm more than happy with it. Great car!!!

I created a post agents ago to show the differences between the 77TDI / 90TDI Trendline Golfs, and the 103TDI / 118TSI Comfortline Golfs:

      Comfort Package adds:
Allow Wheels 15" Wellington (instead of steel wheels with hubcabs!)
      Automatic dimming interior rear-view mirror
      Cruise Control
Dual Zone Climate Control Air Conditioning.
      Foot well illumination
      Gearshift knob in leather
      Leather trimmed Multi-Function Steering wheel
      Multi-Function Display Plus
Automatic Headlights with Coming/Leaving Home Function
      Rain sensing Windscreen wipers

But you're still missing these features with the 77TDI/90TSI:
      Radiator Grille highlights in Chrome
      Alloy wheels (Cleveland) 16 x 6½" with 205/55 R16 tyres
      Anti-theft wheel bolts
Rear seat centre armest with load through provision
'Black Pyramid' insert trim (instead of 'Titanium')
Chrome trim on steering wheel, headlight switch and front reading light surround
Rear Passenger Reading lights (2 instead of 1)
      Shopping Bag hooks (in boot)
Storage box in side lining (in boot)
      12 volt socket (in boot)
      Comfort Front seats
Height adjustment for front passenger seats
      Lumbar adjustment for front seats
Rear seat centre armrest and load through provision
      Front seat backrest storage pockets
Illuminated on driver’s and passenger’s side
Better 6 speed 'wet clutch' DSG (103TDI only, instead of newer 'dry clutch' 7 speed DSG)
      'Sports Package' not available

      • Oh wow, I never expected that much response! Thank you for all you guys' help!

After some number crunching I think I can come up with another ~$1200. Will definitely be calling my dealer to ask if I can upgrade from 90 to 118 (no opt) for a total of $31200 or less. I know this is really pushing it but never hurts to ask right ? Anyhow, I will for sure update y'all with any news.

And don't forget you get a free supercharger "chirp" noise when you upgrade to a 118TSI. Well, with some of them anyway.

                • I ordered a White GTI with DSG, tint and MDI back in February. It's currently at the docks in Melbourne and should be ready for me to pickup from the Sydney dealership in a week or two. The agreed on-road price was $44,040 which is a discount of around 9% which I am ok with.

I have today just discovered that I am eligible for a corporate discount. If I raise this with the dealer now, should I expect to get an additional discount, or is it too late in the game?

                  • Hey guys, bad news here... Turns out that the dealer will not be able to deliver this weekend... Apparently they couldnt get my car from another dealer in Brisbane area so they had to send one up from NSW... They wouldnt tell me whether the car is just rolling off the boat or it has been sitting in NSW for a few months but they assured that its gonna be a 2010 build. And they cant tell me when the delivery date is until sometimes next week.... I know a week of delay is nothing comparing to some others in the forum but I just dont like being in the unknown.

I was SO excited to drive it this weekend too...

                      • Hi Guys,

After much negotiating, finally signed up today.

                        Golf 103 TDI in Manual:
                        - Candy White
                        - Sports Package (Cloth)
                        - MDI
                        - Genuine set of mats
                        - Full tank of Diesel

Drive away in Victoria $33,000. I thought it was a pretty good deal. Car is out of week 10 build, I believe its about to dock in Australia - told we should have it within 4-5 weeks.

Did much tossing and turning over TDI vs TSI - in the end I loved how the TSI drove, but was just too worried about reliability issues - I have a very short tolerance for that kinda stuff. Figured a manual TDI should be close to bullet proof for reliability.

Also heard they are deleting the 103 TDI in a manual from the Aus line up - interesting!

                        Any thoughts?

                              Are those figures right ?

I paid $39,800 for a TSI with the specs as per my signature below. That was a discount of just over 11% ..... So can you figures be correct ?

Yeah - Simz figures are a bit wrong. It's about a 12% discount.

Your specs also come out to a 12% discount using the spreadsheet from this thread.

Keep in mind that Simz got sports pack with leather which is a single $5,000 option. Whereas although you have lots of options, they're all $300 to $1900.
