  • After more than 6months of umming and arring and then 3 or so months of stuffing around trying to get quotes from perth and victoria by email then umming and arring. I bit the bullet and finally ordered a car. I was so over it in the end.

So I've ordered the first car in my name - it's significant for me as I’m 35.

    Here’s what I ordered.

    Golf MY12 2.0L R 4dr Hatch DSG 6 Spd
    Rising blue Metallic
    Black Vienna Leather
    19" Silver Talladega
    Adaptive Chassis control
    Electric Glass Sunroof
    Rear View Camera w/park sensor
    RNS510 Sat Nav w/ Dynaudio 300W
    Boot Sill protect film Clear
    Luggage Net
    Media in cable Ipod
    Tank of fuel
    12mth Rego
    CTP
    Dealer delivery
    Stamp Duty (WA)
    GST
    LCT

Price ended up being 69000 flat.

I had a price of $68000, got greedy and I ended up walking away (and not going back the next week) as the sales manager was a knob. I was over it in the end.

    I hope it’s an okay price – I didn’t pay retail so I’m happy.

Delivery ETA is 31 JAN 12 as I wanted an MY12 specified car – hopefully I get it earlier than the estimated ETA but I’m not sure if the MY12 compliance will hold it till 31 January or push it into February (eek).

I have been told a build date of week 32 so August 8-14th.

I’m excited at time of writing this I have 7mths and 9 days to go before I sit in the dealers driveway and set up launch control, try to take the corner and head off up the road...….actually I might do that at the other dealers driveway as I flip the sales manager the bird…..

So what happens now... I sit and wait till I get a call that it's arriving... I negotiated by email so i didn't get the full sales spiel and buttering up you normally have to endure (thank god) but then i'm a bit lost on what happens now... do i just wait... don't call us we'll call you style.... will I have adequate time to get the 68K together... I need 3 days to clear it...

Interesting a pricing thread is discussing run in time. I'm been curious about it. the manual states 2000km... probably best to go by that - as VW put millions into R&D and if they recomend it it it must be a good guide. I guess that if the car is warmed then you can have a play - within reason. all in moderation hey. so when i go to flip the bird at the guy who annoyed me I'll sit and have the car idling 15minutes first... hehe.

I have a couple of queries - what is the closest colour and spec match of tinting to the golf R privacy glass. I've seen some threads on this but nothing is clear and whats closest.

Can you get vw moulded boot liners that fit the R? good incase the milk bottle or icecream in your shopping spills - you don't get a funky smelling car.

Anyway not sure if the price is helpful but thats what i paid. I'm not sure if I can break it down or divulge the delaer but i'm in perth and there only two north of the river.

    • Hey mate. Welcome to the forums!

If you're happy with the pricing, then stay happy. It's not the best deal in the world (which you already know), but not the worst either

Regardless on your beliefs of how long it takes to warm up a car, do it by driving gently etc, not by idling. Idling only warms the engine, not the gearbox or anything else etc...

As for the other info you ask, I've started an "important posts and threads" index which is stickied at the top of the MK6 forum.

In there you can find threads on "What Accessories are you buying". I'm sure that will cover the moulded boot liners, though I believe that with the Golf R, being it has a shallower boot than the other Golf models, that the rubber boot mat is a better option.

"Front Tint to match VW Factory Tint" is a thread which is specific to the tinting question you have. The summary to the thread though is that there is no tint which can be applied to the front windows which matches exactly. However, if you are happy to put additional tint on the rear windows, there are a few options - though none 100% legal. Solargard HP Supreme 35 on the front windows combined with HP Quantum 52 on the rear windows will give you excellent colour match, leaving the important front windows with a legal 35% VLT and the less important rear windows with a (still technically not legal) darker 22% VLT. So there is a "darkness" / light transmittence difference between front and rear, but you're mostly legal. Putting HP Supreme 22 on the front gives both a colour and darkness match like no other, but is illegal all around.

If you have further questions on those topics though, please do them in the links provided. Cheers

I'm 32 and got my first car in my name too - feels like an achievement and big milestone - isn't it ?

Re: MY12 being delivered in January 2012 - isn't the car going to be built in 2011 ? I don't understand how it works... Mine was built in August 2010 but listed as MY11 - what is the actual year of my car if I need to sell it - is it 2010 or 2011 ???

        • MY10, MY11, MY11.5, MY12 all stand for "model year". The model year represents build specifications/revisions etc.
"Build Date" is the date that the car was built and is what is stamped onto the build plate. There is also a "Compliance Date" which is stamped onto the Compliance plate... no guesses for what that means

When it comes time to sell it, you sell it as a 2010 MY11.

That's just f**** stupid, it means the car is already 1 year old even though I just got it 3 weeks ago???

So "keg75" car would be 1 year old when he gets it in January is that right? And if he was to sell the car in December 2012 - the car will be almost 2 years old for the sale purpose?

            • I guess technically it is that old as that was when it was "born"

Mine will be an MY12 model so I would sell it as 2011 MY12

Plus I don't think people tend to look at the build date when buying cars and that really doesn't tell you anything, the much more important information is the model year as that will tell you what you are actually getting.

Well, it's 2011, so the calender has been that way for 2011 years now...
When you write your ad, there's nothing stopping you from stating in the description or even summary the exact build month/year.

But if you don't like it, then don't buy a new car.

                • I'm getting a MY12 car and I think I'm getting a 2012 compliance - but i'm not sure certain. Build date is still 2011 though. I don't mind if it comes in earlier and is 2011 compliant... as long as it is a MY12 car (which it should be as that kicked in BW22 (May 30, 2011- Jun 5) and the contract states MY12 car.

It is confusticating! I only worked it out after I bought it... I might go back to my man and ask him if it can be 2011 compliant.

Does it actually really mean anything though - if you are going to hold onto the car till it falls apart like i did my (my girlfriends car) last car then it doesn't matter - if it a short life car as you change over then it might mean something for resale. ie comp12 gets better price than if it is comp11. I guess thats where compliance is an issue.

as for MY12 or MY11 - you go for MY12 as generally they have better specs - yes?? unless you don't like facelift or something...and prefer older MY.

My next dilemma is plates!! what do i get.....

                  • I'm told (by dealers in WA) that they look at the Compliance date for evaluating cars, rather than build. Thus WA car suppliers can often hold a car for a few weeks so that it's complied in Jan instead of mid/late Dec. But I'm sure if you wanted it ASAP they would get it complianced immediately. As you have stated, if you're holding onto it for ages, it makes little diff. How you look after the car is sure to have much more of an influence on resale, imo.

As for MY changes... yeah, you hope that MY revisions means better specs!

                      • Lol yeah... that's what I mean by "you hope" that MY revisions mean better specs. Unfortunately sometimes it means revisions to swap a part for a new universal part, or changing "chrome looking plastic" to black rubber, or things like that.

They dont do it that way in Vic.
Here they sell by MY or compliance and trade in by build date.

                          • I know... hence why I was talking about WA, replying to keg75 who is from WA, and not VIC! It's not uncommon for things to vary by state.
