This explains the "Model Year" specification changes, and the production start dates for each of those specification changes.
Your dealer should be able to tell you what the build date and model year of your car is.
I know this one is a slightly off topic, but I have a friend of a friend looking at unloading a late 2009 MK 6 GTI DSG 5dr in white with around 9,000km. It is a stock basic car (no leather, 17s etc) and I want to buy this car for my mum and dad to use. They want about $34k. Is this a good buy? I know they paid close to $46k new as it was bought virtually when it was brand new so discounts were hard to come by, especially as everyone was buying a car for the investment allowance.

Redbook indicates that the average private price atm is $31,000 - $34,100 for 2009 5 door DSG GTI's. Of course, that also includes an ODO reading of 30,000 - 50,000km.
If you know the history of this car, and it has been well cared for, which hopefully you do and it has (since it's your friend's), then I feel it's a good buy.
Also, since it's late 2009, you'd still be eligible to buy the extended factory 3 year warranty...
Thanks Corey - it was driven by middle aged lady who needs to sell to upgrade to a bigger car with a new kid on the way. She said that she would have loved to have kept it, but it is hard to have two kiddy seats in a GTI. It has not been thrashed at all and always garaged.
I too was thinking that the 3 yr warranty is a good thing to buy, as I have heard that VW Australia are offering them cheap now as well before 30 June.
If I don't take this one up, I am happy to refer other forum members to this car if it is of interest.

According to VW website only original owner can get extended warranty?
"If your Volkswagen was purchased new by you, we can offer you a 36 month /60,000km extension on your already existing Volkswagen manufacturers Warranty".
that 1st one is more like stone-age than middle-aged dieterbohlen lol.

Car now on the market - she has taken delivery of her new Land Rover Freelander LE.
I have decided to not go ahead with this as I am not sure of my movements over the next year or two and should I relocate overseas, I will give my folks my GTI.
I've had a Pirelli for 2.5years and as much as I love the all round car and power the driveability of the FWD is really doing my head in, so I really want to trade in for an R !
What is the going price of a DSG 5 door R with no options? I've briefly looked in this thread with no luck and the spreadsheet on page1 had no R listed.
RRP for the car only is $52,490 I think? so I was hoping for $55K driveaway with a lot of haggling...
