I placed my Golf R order in late June and have been told the car won't arrive until late January - early February. I was initially told the car would be delivered in November 2010.

argh...the Fedora is somewhere in the middle of the Pacific...at least I hope so as it hasn't moved from outside of Panama for 11 days.

My dealer contacted me yesterday saying that the car is finally off the production line! However, they don't know which boat it will be on, but gave me an NADCON screenshot with 'Departure Port of Shipment' - 15/11/10 and 'Arrival at final Destination' (Melbourne) - 27/12/10. Looks like a very late Christmas present, or maybe a New Year's resolution Should I bug my dealer for a VIN? Will they have that information on hand?

Hey mate mine finished production on the 29/10/2010 as recorded on the NADCON screendump I recieved but didn't have any shipment details. I have the VIN but so far it hasn't come up when checking the tracking website. Are you sure the ship details are correct as going off the the tracking sites schedule for Melbourne I can't see a ship leaving or getting in on those dates you mention.
