How to track the car you have ordered?

Is there anyway you can track with what a dealer refers to as a factory order or commission number? I have been given this and told the vehicle is in production now so should have it by the end of May. Or do i just have to take the dealer at his word?

My dealer gave me a printout of the production/delivery schedule for my car. It had a commission number on the top of it. You could maybe ask for this for now and then when it is built they should be able to supply you with a VIN.

I ordered in December (late) and was told end March (seemed optomistic to me)
then told April, then May. I changed the colour at this point on the proviso it wouldn't delay the delivery. Now i have been told July delivery and that the delay may be due to the colour change. These guys are unreal
I am now looking at cancelling the order only if can get a full refund of the deposit.
There are plenty of stock cars out there I would be happy with......

Does anyone know how long the build process is? The schedule i received from my dealer stated that my order was handed over to production on the 17/02/10 and then due to be discharged from production on the 16/03/10.......that's 1 month after production begins

Does it really take that long to build a car on a production line???

Got delivery update for my GTI

I got a call from my dealer today giving me an update on delivery progress. I paid deposit and signed contract on 19th Jan. Fortunately the spec I wanted exactly matched one of the cars the dealer had already placed an order for.

Anyway, I was told it's in production right now and apparently due to be loaded on a ship on 23rd March. They said it's due to arrive in Aus early May and then about two weeks to clear customs so looking at mid to late May for delivery. This makes it roughly a 4 month wait.

I'm going to get the VIN once it comes off the production line so I can at least then track it as it makes its way over here.

Are other GTI buyers finding similar wait times to this?

Just checked WW's tracking website. My car was "DELIVERED FROM 02-03-2010 15:13:00". I think this means the car has been delivered to my dealer?

wow , seems as though you guys get alot of info from your respective dealers. I was told by the dealer the next time I hear from him will be when the car is ready to be picked up. Feels as though I am definitely not a customer. more like an inconvenience

Got My VIN & Engine Number

Order placed Jan 6, got my VIN and Engine number today, car was custom built to my spec last week.............

I have to say it was a pleasant surprise to get that call from the dealer earlier this week. I have heard a few stories of some dealers being less than customer-focused so I didn't have high expectations of the communication cycle during build/shipping/delivery process.

At time of purchase I was told May (ish) delivery; once order was entered I was told Build week 6 (week of Feb 1) was the scheduled date; when the dealer checked that week the build was listed as frozen, then re-scheduled to last week.

He was looking weekly and emailing me updates

Anybody going to Barloworld Mascot today to pick up their car? I am and I know there are a number of other pickups scheduled for this afternoon

I was told that they only had a demo.
Funnily the Five Dock dealership had a number of GTIs. when I mentioned that my outstanding GTI can be sourced from there it fell on deaf ears.
Instead they told me that mine is coming mid-March (ordered last Nov)

ahh thanks ozvino. I just called the dealer, was scheduled week 10 build, which I take is this present week and he still cant give me further information. ah well ill just have to wait
