How to track the car you have ordered?

I have just ordered my Golf GTI Mk6 last Monday and the dealership has told me that it will be up to a six month wait, so in the mean time I do enjoy reading all your posts, especially all the ones who have picked up their new rides. Lets just hope that the 6 months will go by quickly...

Can you see your VIN on the tracking site. As the ones loaded at Bremerhaven on the 10th are on the site, but mine is not among them. Last 6 #s on the Vin seem to only be 32.... whereas mine is 34.....

Hopefully mine has just not been updated yet.

My car is also a week 10 build with a 34nnnn VIN (originally ordered at the end of Oct, but insisted on a 2010 build; was originally slated for a week 6 build but has obviously slipped). My dealer today provided me with this info:

Checkpoint: 8
Checkpoint Date: 13/03/10
Factory: 11 Wolfsburg

...and nothing on the shipping as yet (dealer has advised this should be available next week). Wonder if ours will be on the same ship?

...will track and hopefully watch it through all the ports to Melbourne.

Have you been told yours is being shipped to Melbourne? Don't they ship to Adelaide?

Nope.

Perth, Melbourne, Pt Kembla (Sydney) and Brisbane are the only Australian ports for WW ships.

My original response yesterday seems to have disappeared into the ethernet - did it about the time the website went into maintenance.

My answer was effectively same as Limas and this was confirmed with Dealer sometime ago as both my Mark5 Golf GTI and my son's Polo GTI came the same way through Melbourne.

Do you know what Checkpoint 8 actually is?

Looking at the tracking website I was able to see the cars that shipped on the Torino one day after it left Bremerhaven. Hopefully will pick up same when mine put on a ship. Next 3ships leaving are Mignon (16/3), Talisman (17/3) and Toreador (20/3). My preference is for my GTI to be shipped on Toreador - leaves later but arrives in Melbourne about 4-5 days earlier as it goes the shorter trip. So, hopefully will know by this time next week.

The excitement grows.

I posted that, according to my dealer, VW stock for Adelaide is shipped to Port Kembla currently, not Melbourne:

The cars arrive in Sydney and then pass quarantine and customs, then they get trucked to Melbourne where they undergo the compliance plating, then once all of that is complete they will be trucked to our holding compound in Port Adelaide.

I have no idea what checkpoint 8 is... I guess it's a holding yard somewhere... Wolfsburg, on the way to the coast, who knows. Hopefully it's the last checkpoint before it's loaded on the boat.

Just out of interest, what site did you check to find the boats/routes/dates, and the vehicle VINs on each?

hey guys, those of who have week 10 builds , i just spoke to my dealer and was told the car is sitting at the harbour waiting to be loaded, so hopefully it will be on the next ship.so i guess thats what checkpoint 8 could mean, also i dont know why but they tell me i will only get the car in June. dont know what takes so long hey.

Same site that you check your own VIN except through Customer Centre dropdown and select Schedules and then select Search By Port. Input Germany to Australia and then select Bremerhaven to Melbourne (or Brisbane etc.). Input either leaving after date or arriving before date and hit enter. It will give you all ships heading our way and when they are leaving and arriving and days taken.

When checking volume VIN on the Track and Trace page use a % sign for searching. In other words if you want all VIN number that start with WVWZZZ1KZAW34 and the sign to the end like this WVWZZZ1KZAW34% and it will bring up all VINs with that as their first numbers. At the moment that is none, but if you do a 3 instead of 4 before the % sign you will get a list of VINs for cars already loaded and it shows the date they have been loaded or date already delivered to relevant port.

Got informed from the dealer today the my GTI was completed on 11/03/10 and is now waiting to go on the boat.
Was wondering how long is takes for it to arrive? I've been quoted a delivery date of 23/04/10. Do you guys think it'll make that date?

I would be EXTREMELY surprised if you had it by then. Generally seems to take a fair bit longer than that.

I recon that would be around th dates that it arrives at th docks. Then add around another 2-3wks for customs clearance and dealer prep.
