I'm thinking that since the Golf R is the AWD chassis and they're made in batches, that maybe the fact that you ordered 2.5 weeks before I may mean that you still end up in the same production batch (especially if your dealer was not able to enter your order until release date...). A late September build could still mean late November delivery... but at worst we'll have a nice Christmas present
I'm thinking I don't even have a car at this stage. There are only 2 dates listed in NADCON. Ordered 25/05 and Buildability Check 17/06. Everything else is blank with no ETA. So your expected build week comes from where? Nov puts me in a situation where I'll have to source another car to get me by but that pisses me off. VWA are really lucky there isn't any other car around the money worth buying otherwise I'd have walked by now.

    • The last screenshot I saw for mine (on 21/06) showed dates for 1. Customer Contract Date, 2. Ordere Entry Dealer System, 3. Order Entry NADIN, 4. Order Registration IFA and 5. Buildability Check. From what I've seen on other members here, the next step which will occur is 7. Current SGW Determination, then 8. Allocation of Production Plant, then 6. SGW Rebooking and 9. Handover to Production will likely occur on the same day.

To be honest, I think that the expected build week comes from another area.
And also, from what I have seen, there is NO "final ETA" in individual orders. The dealers give ETAs based on experience and the progress of other orders which have been put in earlier and are further along through the process.

Maybe one of our resident dealers can expand on this?

As for finding another car... I seriously think that all this information is what causes so much stress to people on this site. Think about it, 5 years ago, you'd order a car, the dealer would say cya in 6 months, and that'd be the end of it. None of this tracking crap and no forums for everyone to upset each other over how quick or slow the progress is going

Not true. First new car I ordered back in 2001 was a Nissan 200SX. Newly released model, selling like hotcakes. Ordered in Feb, was told 2 months. Got a March build and delivered April. Any time I asked questions about build status/delivery I got answers and they turned out to be accurate. So I don't see why VWA can't be more efficient nearly 10yrs later!

        • On a brighter note, it looks like my GTI landed in Melbourne yseterday! Wonder how long it'll take to come up here to Sydney and be in my grubby hands. Can't wait!

Because just like most Japanese manufacturers, there was probably a manual, an auto, two spec levels, and 5 colours for a total of 20 possible combinations - meaning there was always one either in the holding yard, or already on the way. And even if there wasn't, the parts were always in the factory because the cars are all identical.

Some of these Japanese cars have even less combinations. Honda Civic Type R, 1 gear box, 1 spec level, 5 colours, for only 5 total combinations.

We've had this discussion several times in several threads, but it's a completely different situation when you have a car with several hundred thousand different configurations including at least 4 different chassis/shells (3 dr / 5dr and fwd / awd).

I've seen enough episodes of Mega Factories to see how quick the process goes LOL. But yeah I guess I can see the difference, don't want to though. Easier to blame someone for having to walk.

              • According to my VIN, my car was loaded onto the Torino last night. Next stop Belgium, France, UK, South Africa x3 then Fremantle!

Interstingly, the dealer told me the car was on the Australind. Hope he got the VIN right!

                  • I'd give them a call and see where it's at. But be nice, the dealer may not even have it yet, as sometimes it can take several weeks to get through quarantine and compliance etc.

Contacted my dealer early this morning and left yet another message. No call back or Email from them today. Im hoping that the quoted Mid July pickup passes so I can cancel my order and get the R at this rate.

LOL! really! I always thought that was the case? So in theory the car could be delayed beyond the quoted pickup date by 2 months, and they can still keep my deposit? Seems quite ridiculous to be honest...

Sorry for being so negative, Im just over the whole waiting game. And I know for the fact the car has been in Melbourne for over 3 weeks now.

I have contacted the dealer numerous times for an update and I have nothing. I need to organise the last stage of my finance and insurance for the car still, but I cant at the moment since im getting nothing from the dealer.

                          • Your dealer is slack for not even touching base with you, but yeah, it's not within the dealers control when the car will be delivered. Shipping companies, customs, compliance, delivery companies, even THE WEATHER can delay the delivery of your car. Obviously a dealer cannot be held responsible for the weather. So most contracts do not give you an out, just because they've missed the "estimated delivery date". If it blew out by 2 months, and you wanted/needed to get out, I'm sure there would be avenues you can take - but not if it just misses the estimation by a week or so.

Btw - if you _really_ wanted an R, you should just talk to your dealer. Several people who have had GTI's on order have changed to an R whilst the GTI was already on the way. Depending on the GTI you've ordered and the dealer (and I guess your relationship with the dealer), many would be happy to be taking more money from you!

Having said that, if you are already over the waiting game, I'm not sure what good changing to an R and having to wait until end of November (at the earliest) will do!

I dont want a R that bad. It was just if I dont get anything from the dealer in terms of communication by Mid July. I will look at cancelling. By the time the R arrives I will have more money saved and can actually justify the purcahse.

GTI is fine and a great car. As I said I am so sick of waiting and hearing nothing from the dealer.

They were in constant communication with me before and during the purchase process. After I paid the deposit. I have only been called up once with the VIN number to track it. Everything else has gone on deaf ears.

                              • What I find even more infuriating is the fact that I am on the phones and email for my work (as most people are), and I always get back to people the day they call me or email me. Even if I cant talk to them right away, I will always call back and let them know I will be contacting them on X date and actually make time to do it. Its not bloody hard.
