Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

    • Hi guys, I have been reading heaps but can't find a definite answer.
mrvr6exy has helped but I just want to get 100% before I spend $3000 on tyres and wheels.

will 19x8.5 et45 with 225/30/r19 or 225/35r19 cause me issues with eibach springs 30mm drop. Mk6 TSI90 trendline
no track just street, but will have peeps in the car now and then.

      anyone got experience in this?

      • Have you thought about 19x8.5 ET50? The Audi TT came with 17x8.5 ET50 and they fit under the guards

225 is too narrow for a 8.5"...unless you are into that sort of thing

            Golf Rs come with 225/40 on 18 x 7.5 ET51 or 235/35 on 19 x 8 ET50 from the factory

              go with the 225/35/19

fitment will be fine with lowered springs..... checkout the fender screw mod/ removal which you can do yourself for that little more clearance

              • 19x8.5 et45 is the most common fitment the mk5 and 6 guys run.... although there isn't much space to play with it is still a conservative fitment

                • Tyre recommendations please?

                  Folks,
Some advice please. 2010 Mk 6 2.0 TDI. 120K coming up. All my driving is highway & country roads - not a round town car.
Original fitment was Bridgestone Turanza. Quite good, but i felt things could be better. I have always found that German cars go better with Continental tyres, so at 62K I changed to Conti CC5. Then I saw the problem - "Made in China"

So, that deletes Continental tyres from my list. My needs are simple, I need a tyre that has good all-round performance for highway use. High g-force cornering is not required (I am still on the original brake pads!) but I do need the benefits of good wet weather handling. Oh, and NOT made in China

Any suggestion would be most welcome.

                  • I'm assuming you have 205/55r16??

I put Toyo Proxes C100 on Dad's Accord Euro and the few drives I've had of it they are very quiet & appear to grip well. They are probably in the same category as the Turanza (Touring). A set of 4 were about $440 on a 4 for 3 offer. I'd suggest you check out other users reviews as the old boy is 86 so he doesn't really get up it.

My personal choice would be the Michelin PS3. They are a great all-rounder. For a bit more mileage with slightly less performance the Primacy 3 would be a better pick.

The Goodyear Efficient Grip gets some great reviews but (from my supplier) is $35/tyre more.

If you are running 17s then my choice would be similar but the prices will differ slightly. I'd also fit 235/45r17 instead of 225/45 but that's just one of my preferences.

What was wrong with the CC5? Made in China doesn't mean a bad tyre - many good tyres come out of China.

                          • Looking for a bit of help fellow dubbers as I am at a loss.
I have 19 inch 'bright chrome' Talladegas and I have had all sorts of trouble trying to find the paint code for the wheels
as I want to repair a few chips ( I am looking to spray them).
I have found that the part number for the wheels contains the code 88Z but I went to a paint shop close to me in Botany and they have no record of such a code and had no idea where to start.
Anyone know the correct code a paint supplier could mix on request???and more importantly WHERE in Sydney I could source some???
                            Any help greatly appreciated.
                            Sman.

                            • Hi All,

I need to get 2 rear tyres for my MK 6 GTI, they came with Bridgestone Potenza (050 AEZ) 225/40/18

I was actually thinking of trying something else - would it be ok for me to put a different tyre on and then wait a few months for the fronts to need replacing ? (fronts still have a few months to go i reckon)

Also any Melbourne tyre shop recommendations? would prefer central / inner west

                              Thanks in advance

                              Gary

Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 if you want the best all-round street tyre, if not on a tight budget. Michelin Pilot Sport 3 if you are on a tighter budget. Having different make/model tyres on different axles is not normally a problem, from either a road worthy or performance/handling perspective. Great deals and customer service can be obtained from Tyrepower Hawthorn. The proprietors are Micky and Sam.
