I put the Eagle F1 Assym2 on the front of my R about 2 weeks ago, very impressive grip! (225/40R18" 92Y rated). Bob Jane don't carry them but were happy to bring in fitted at $250ea (I told them I could get fitted for about that at Tempe Tyres so it appears they price matched). I only paid for 1 tyre as my "tyre and rim" insurance I purchased with the car paid for the other(managed to tear a huge chunk out of the side of my front driver original Dunlop SP SportMaxxGT trying to steer out the way of a woman doing a dodgy reverse park in Eastwood on a 1 way street, metal gutter plate had sharp edge..).
I finally managed to get oversteer in the Golf R at long last!! It has always had a tendency to understeer when pushed hard in 90deg corners, yesterday I gave it a good push again in a typical corner I used to have fun in the WRX in (but could never push the same in the Golf because I would steer and wait some distance/vehicle slowing until the front finally would grip), and to my surprise the Goodyears at the front just gripped so well, so much so that the weight transfer of the car and lesser grip in the rear Dunlops meant the tail started to drift out (I didn't have TC or ESC disabled so presumably the car kicked in somewhat to dull the experience still...)
So I highly recommend those GY Eagle F1 Assymetric2s! The grip is definitely more than I have experienced with the Dunlops. Given the Dunlops are only about 1/2 worn and over 25000Km already, it suggests that Dunlop sacrificed a bit of grip for durability. Hopefully the EagleF1s will last over 20000km! I was forever replacing tyres (and brakes) on the Subaru (with good grippy tyres, once I got cheap tyres that lasted a ridiculously long time but extremely poor grip, was happy when they finally wore out enough to get better grip tyres again).
Poor Dunlop:
