Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Exactly the same as yours! So frustrating to be honest. Thanks for the follow up.

I need to do this on my GTI as well.

Did you recover your existing head liner or buy a brand new one?

Was there a DIY tutorial you followed?
I paid a professional recently, great job (tidy trim - Newcastle) for 320$ cash

        • Couple of days on the tools..
Got around to fitting some coilovers I bought on the 10/09/2014 off antihero300.
          Also fitted some r32 brakes.
Worst thing is I did the left side first and when I moved to the right side found the outer cv boot had just let go.
          So that will be next.

          • Big day today. Did the timing belt, water pump, thermostat and DSG fluid change. A lot of up and down off the floor but we got there in the end. Huge thanks to Gav, once again he was a machine and never fails to smash any project out of the way.

                          • Fitted new plugs and coils last night.
                            Old ones:

Cylinder 1 coil pack had a big tear in the rubber at the top, right under the coil unit. So I assume this is where it was leaking spark and causing miss-fires. Plug on Cylinder 1 was also noticeably dirtier than the others.

Re-installed with Bosch plugs, and Red "R8" Coils from BMR AW:

Only odd thing is they don't seem to sit down quite as flush to the top of the valve cover. But otherwise looks good
And runs nice and smooth now.

                              • Created a fully valvetronic 3" catback (already had 3" DP) with the pneumatic valve controlled by two hidden buttons in the center console.
                                3" straight pipe / 3" resonated switchable.
