Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

It was removed for a reason from later models as it wasn't required. I can't recall the reason but you should be able to find it with a google search.

Correct its not required but for the sake of 5c of electrical tape I feel it looks better

Ill give the search a miss as its not that big a deal

That sucks. Hate people like that. Picked up my first dent the other day and absolutely livid. Getting it removed later this week (paintless).

Needless to say, I bought white for a reason. You can barely see any scratches!

              • Met my gf for lunch, then took it into Barloworld because the engine warning light went on, lost all throttle response, wouldnt change gear in manual or auto mode...

Looks like the turbo has gone up the creek (apparently). Now driving an Edition TDi as a loaner and realising how much stuff I got out of the GT Sport for free

I had a roll of (3m brand) .6mm clear protection tape, similar to what you can buy in Autobarn etc to do Headlights with.

                        • Today on the way to work my GTI lost boost! Lacked any sort of reasonable power.
I ran vagcom on it and it confirmed my suspicions.
Bit of a story here but last December before I drove to NSW for christmas I decided to replace the divertor valve as insurance. I fitted an original part and took a couple of coil packs just in case as I had a crook one last year.
Anyway, the divertor valve has split its diaphragm.
I refitted the original and all seems restored again!! I have been a little suss about the power lately anyway. It seemed a little up and down ofr late but that could just be my mood swings at present!!
Anyway, the VW parts are covered under warrantee so it looks like I will be getting a new one to put aside!

Turns out it was the 4-pin connector to the DSG that had broken/come loose. This caused the gearbox to receive incorrect data and lock into failsafe mode.

Turbocharger is fine, and I got the car back this morning safe and sound.

                              • Got rear-ended in Clayton (intersection of Wellington and Blackburn roads). Idiot civic driver had his vtec kick in - didn't drive for the wet conditions and locked his car up and kissed the back of the golf as I was stopped at a red light.

Damage is minor - cracked the plastic bumper and seems to have affected my parking sensors as well (not beeping as much any more). Apparently he says he has 2000 bucks worth of damage to his dodgy 2001 honda civic, which I find laughable.

Ah well, novated lease insurance covers all damage to my car and as a stationary rear-end collision, any chances of being it my fault are limited.
