Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Make sure you don't use the supplied double sided tape as it is not thick enough to make contact along the plastic sill there currently, and also suggest cleaning the surface well with iso-alcohol.

Thanks for the tip. Barneybot used the supplied tape but also used some silastic, which did the job.

I have some auto double sided tape, may be better off doing that.

          • I used silicone in & around the tape - tape held it in place until the silicone dried.

            +1 for the alcohol clean.

They look good. And interestingly people seem to lift their feet over them, rather than scratching them. I guess 'cause they can see where the sill is now - before it was a dark grey background?

                    Hi Maris

Here's some pics of them installed ('course I have heat stroke from doing this!).
I'm very happy with the install and with the quality of these things - nice, solid, and well finished - hope you like your as well!

The third pic is a bit of an experiment using upholstery thread over the top of the existing stitching on the handbrake & gear boot. I haven't tackled the wheel yet (it's VERY time consuming) as I'm unsure whether I'll keep it or not. I haven't made up my mind as yet. I did the first batch with a bright red, but that was too bright, so I did it again using a more burgundy colour. That looked a much better match with the red in the brick pattern of the seats.
