Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Campbell Town was the place you had to watch out back then

While you're in Launceston you could take a blat over the Sidling one night - that used to be a firm favourite and hasn't changed much in 40 years
Back to Launceston via St Marys makes a nice round trip too.......

Will be in Tassie in November for Mum's birthday and will definately take the GTI - looking forward to the Devonport to George Town run from the ferry, and will definately throw in a Sidling blast.

Sorry folks, didn't mean to hijack - but I did do something with my GTI today - rang the bloody dealer and said "where is it?" Ordered 2 weeks ago, supposedly located in Sydney, and now I'm told it's coming from Perth

So I had virtual contact with it

The GTI and R36 are both very different cars to drive. Obviously the R36 is a larger car, but it doesn't feel much larger. Heavier and more solidly put together... but not bigger. The interior is nicer, the steering wheel feels better, and everything feels just a little more expensive. I guess it should, too, since it's nearly twice the price.

There's nothing subtle about the GTI's ride. It crashes about over bumps and pot holes, while the R36 feels composed and not as bumpy. Could be something as simple as tyres and pressures, or it might be something more fundamental.

The biggest thing I notice while driving the GTI after spending a bunch of time in the R36 is I'm constantly accelerating too hard and either torque steering all over the place or making traction control work overtime. It takes a little while to adjust to.

The R36 is much faster in a straight line but I'm not sure how they compare through the corners.

I'd say I prefer to drive the R36. It sounds better, feels nicer, and has my golf clubs in the back all the time...
          R36 =

Drove out to Hornsby to pick up my new BBQ!... Did about 80km today, which is lots for my TDI (it's done about 3,300km in 5 months).

                  Apologies for my negative thoughts

Gave the GT a good clean, took some photos, went for a drive through the hills then another wash to get all the red dust/gravel off. It felt a bit like groundhog day. Had a ball but got flashed by a Multanova, will cop it sweet though, as was going a fair bit quicker earlier on and it could have been much worse!

I've got a Garmin and put it in the same place but can't get it to stay in place. Let alone the car's power adapter sits in the same place and takes up room.

OTT I drove my GTI to work like every day. It's sitting at work getting dirty as we speak!

I fitted Osram +90 Nightbreakers ordered from Powerbulbs.com they make a nice difference in brightness and a whiter light, a good upgrade for non HIDs. Also, I received them within 4 days from UK (free shipping), that's quicker than from Melbourne or Sydney!

Did you get them for both high and low beam lights?

According to the Powerbulb website the low and high beams are separate, both H7
