Golf 1.9 TDI Comfortline 2006
Two weeks driving back from Booleroo Centre the multi functions steering wheel (MFSW) controls failed.
Much to my disappointment I later realised that the horn had also failed.
I tried replacing the horn fuse (only $5 for a packet of fuses) - unfortunately this did not work.
Went on the forums and worked out the slip ring / clock spring or wiring may have failed but that telling sign is an airbag light on in the dash. Next morning I went to move the cars around, hey presto airbag light on.
Went to Duttons Volkswagen at Mount Barker who confirmed the slip ring had indeed failed after testing.
Purchased the part from Solitaire Volkswagen who I have contacts with (thanks if your reading this).
Duttons then fitted the part and tested - all fixed - thanks to Duttons for fitting us in so promptly on the diagnosis and fitting.
Next morning
Fitted a new overrun pulley, tensioner and belt to my TDI tonight.
After 2 and a 1/2 year I finally found out what the annoying noise was when under load between 2000 and 2500rpm.
