Yeah it's crazy money, but I'd do it all again. There's not much under $100k that I'd personally prefer to have.Originally posted by G-rig View Post$100k is an insane amount on a pirelli, but see your point. If you can lower a Tig you can lower a Golf the same amount and will be better.
That's why I get a bit defensive when I hear people with 40k tiggys sledging them off. Quite frankly, very few people have driven a $100k pirelli (or even a $60k pirelli for that matter) - so they should quietly reserve their comments until they do.
Granted my GTI isn't the same as a standard K03 GTI, but I'd still have a bog stock one over a Tiggy any day.
But I do admit I have a bias against baby SUVs. They do everything, but nothing particularly well.

Yeah I don't think I'm the only one though, there's a few floating around.Originally posted by den525 View Postwow you spent 100k on your pirelli!!!! that is insane! i need to pick your brain.
It doesn't take much when you start going at it. Some of those parts are really expensive. Brakes and suspension will see the better part of $10k gone for a start.
But those two things, done right, will take the car to a very different place from the stocker. I'm sure the other forum members who have done it can chirp up, but I'm talking about cornering at speeds that will flatten your eyeballs.
Monster power is great, and I've spent a fortune on mine maximising power, but the real fun in these things is ludicrous cornering and braking.

I'm sure its fairly fast, but I'd get a 135i or S3 and do a retune and it would be better (esp than modding my R32 as well).Originally posted by kryten2001 View PostYeah it's crazy money, but I'd do it all again. There's not much under $100k that I'd personally prefer to have.

Yeah 135i's are OK (mate at work has one), and the new S3 is nice too. That was a really close contender, but I really wanted to get a 'definitive Mk5' coz I love them so much.Originally posted by G-rig View PostI'm sure its fairly fast, but I'd get a 135i or S3 and do a retune and it would be better (esp than modding my R32 as well).
My first choice was actually Lotus Exige (now that's a proper sports car), but it just wouldn't fly at home. So when I see people quoting Mk5's as impractical, I gotta laugh. Ever seen inside one of those things?
Alas my middle aged backside would never fit into one......

I don't fear the Tiguan.

I don't mind the look of them, in fact I reckon most VWs have it in the bag compared to their rivals. If I were in the market for a car like that, I'd certainly buy one over a RAV4 or Honda or whatever.Originally posted by triode12 View PostTIGUAN! With looks only a mother would love...
But that doesn't alter the fact they will tip over if you go to fast in one.

It's funny how VW people argue about power and weight, Tinto's Pirelli is his daily driver (not sure about Kryten's) but I'm sure it would eat 99% of the other VWs on the street and track
The comparison in regards to the Forester GT against the WRX is a very good example by the way.MKV GTI Pirelli

Yeah mine is/was a daily driver, but I just bought a Mazda3 to bring me to work so I don't have to work the relli so hard.Originally posted by bwen View PostIt's funny how VW people argue about power and weight, Tinto's Pirelli is his daily driver (not sure about Kryten's) but I'm sure it would eat 99% of the other VWs on the street and track

Now it sits in my shed alongside my 1198S.... Boonta.
The argument is silly. Granted mine cost a bucketload, but to compare these things to a tiguan as a 'sports' car is just stupid. I'd argue a Forester Vs WRX is a closer matchup than a Pirelli and a Tiguan.
Have these tiguan guys ever driven a hypo K04? Good lord.....Last edited by kryten2001; 10-03-2010, 10:47 PM.

Now that cures the need for speed doesn't it! I don't want to drive the Pirelli hard either, going back to building a dedicated track carOriginally posted by kryten2001 View PostYeah mine is/was a daily driver, but I just bought a Mazda3 to bring me to work so I don't have to work the relli so hard.

I wanted a simple 600RR but partner didn't let me
So I'm back to building my 9500rpm redline honda-pig

yeah I'm a bloody sucker for it. It took a while to get the missus used to the idea of a third car (along with the ducati), but it was either the Mazda3 or a Hilux SR5.Originally posted by bwen View PostNow that cures the need for speed doesn't it! I just use the relli on the weekend now. I have to commute a fair way into work each day, so I didn't want tens of thousands of kays put on the VW.
