No, my wife has a nanny's car (the Tig) ... which will kick your Pirelli's but any way you like to look at it ....

I have a R coming with even more of that ....

      Wow great argument there.
I am happy to have my tiguan, just becasue you are too blind to see it has more potential than most other cars for the price you pay.

I will happily blitz drivers with my $40k 200kw AWD machine.
And just so you know, its only 250kg heavier than a 5dr GTI.

The pirelli is a good bit of kit for the money but the Tiguan is a better option as it has a greater potential for everything the Golf can do (except maybe motorkhana but how many times would you be doing that???)

there were a few more differences between the S3 and the pirelli not just the tune iirc.
well i would probably choose the mk6, if it wasn't so ugly! People just buy the mk6, because it is "new". Its is hardly an upgrade, more like a facelift.

Plus i got a pirelli over mk6, as
        1. a brand new mk6 there is a long waiting list
        2. The pirelli i bought had less kms than a mk6 demo plus cheaper.

that's not really my point. I'm not saying you shouldn't or should like the tiguan, it is your choice. Maybe we are also at a different stage of our life. You are probably mid 30s, therefore a Tiguan would be more suitable, i'm in my early 20s, i don't think many people would choose a Tiguan, even if it does have alot of potential.

My dad owns a mercedes ml63 amg, its bloody quick, it doesn't mean i would want one at this stage of my life.

Plus an APR ECU upgrade on the pirelli, which cost like $1500 would blitz your Tiguain

Ummm ... actually no ... from a standing start the Tig would have you easily ....

Bit of education needed here ... do yourself a favour and go drive 2 equally powered cars, 1 FWD and 1 AWD and see what happens. Then come back and tell us ....

EDIT: and the higher the power these cars make the bigger the difference ....

              I am 23.

Can a pirelli be had for under 40K with APR ecu update?
My Tig will come in under 40k for Intake and APR Chip plus AWD to get the power to the ground.

The pirelli is a different engine setup than the Tiguan though (K04) so the comparison is not valid.

The mk6GTI and Tiguan share the same engine setup so they are comparable in terms of power output.

The main problem is that 99% of the time, no one will ever use these cars to their true potential (track/motorkhana etc) so the car that is most practical is the better option imho.

I know newer always seems better butt there are a few improvements but not saying anyone with a MK5 GTI/Pirelli should upgrade.

I was just doing the comparison based on a demo Pirelli at the dealers (asking price $49,999) vs new MK6 GTI, and considering they want a lot i'd go for a MK6.

thats the point, a hatch is more racey look whichever way you look at it.

ummm yeah, i wouldn't pay more than 38-40k for one now, and that's why that one is still sitting in the yard.

well my car was only 7 months old, fully optioned, so thats 12k less... i think 42k is not too bad.

                        Sounds alright.

The point is it's not worth having too much power in a FWD as you'd just wish you had an AWD so you could make use of it properly.

I'd also take a twin turbo 6 over a K04 as well, no lag is cool.

MKV Pirellis, MKVI GTI and Tiguans are just run about cars, two of them are 'hot hatches' and the other is just a 'SUV' who cares if one is faster than the other and weighs less/more/better for value. They're not sports cars anyway so why are you treating them like one?

I was thinking of going full 2+ on my Pirelli but I thought why waste money on a runabout where I can put that money and build a dedicated track car that would be faster and more satisfying to drive. It's not like you can really put your 'tuned' vws to their full potentials on public roads anyway...

Totally agree mate, it's easy to get sucked into the mod game and is pointless if you go too far & after a while when you can't use the power around the streets (and usually a case of 'who's got the best'). I'd still get an APR retune and do a few basic things though to personalise your ride maybe a few cosmetic & sound system mods.

Separate track car could be a lot more fun, having been in a mates 2F MX-5.

Definitely, the money I've spent on the current track car I'm building now I could have even gone GT28 or GT30 on my current car and be posting all over VW forums how cool and fast my car is

Be sure to give me a ride in your R before you sell it! Sounded awesome the other day when you drove past

Tell that to the millions of people that have been modifying Volkswagens since the dawn of time. We may as well all just sell up and buy Toyota Camrys!
