What have you done to your mk4 (golf/bora) today?

apparently that is the best way if it won't open at all.
going to try a couple of methods of opening the door that I have found from trawling all the threads that pop up on google.
hopefully a quick soldering and they will be back to good health.. fingers crossed

Yea think mines doing the same! Oil dripping from bellhousing and engine join..

If you have the box out invest in some sealant and re seal all the timing covers. You don't wanna go back in there for a while.

the awesome moment when your rear left door won't unlock with the button...or from inside. but the lock pin moves up and down with the interior handle but won't unlock..... doh..
now the fun part.. trying to pull it apart and get it working again

I found banging just below the handle (or even on the handle with my fist) 'jolts' the module just enough for the solders to make contact and touch.. might take a couple of goes but eventually it should unlock

What have you done to your mk4 (golf/bora) today?

I have the lock carrier completely out at the moment (a/c compressor issue) and my view is that you will need the clearance. There are a few bolts, you will have trouble seeing let alone getting to. It gives you more room to work with. I know its a PITA (but a good decision for me in trying to get the compressor out).

Cheers John, just had a second look and theres no room at all to get to those bolts (needed a mirror set to see them). Looks like I'll be taking the lock carrier out..

Decided to fix my blower motor thermal fuse (Fan only working on setting 4, no AC) - pulled it apart and got a little more than I bargained for ...









Looks like water has got in at some point. Some rust on the wires too which is worrying so I'll be replacing some of that loom as well now. Funny how a five minute job becomes something you have to work on over a few days ...

Did your AC go in one lot? ie. did you lose your interior fan operation as well as your AC at the same time, or did any part of the whole shebang remain operational?

I guess my car is getting on for fourteen years old so it's not surprising things are failing/ need replacing - it seems the list is growing faster than I manage to fix things at present though

Diff rivet went pop by the looks of it. Was overtaking someone at the time but a week before hand I hand some horrible noises when turning (which was probably the rivet on it's way out).

Hopefully next weekend I get to see the gearbox internals, and hopefully it's repairable.

Just to point out that on car sales there is only 22 mk4 Gtis for sale in the entire of Australia. Compare that to 160 mk5's, and 200 mk6's Was the mk4 gti a poor seller? haha.

it was slightly frustrating when buying mine.. the price range went from 4800-10000 and there was only 5 MAX at a time in queensland (interstate buying is a pain).

picked up my slightly modified JOM swaybar links from Gav, (were too long) and now have to fit them this week.
ordered an eBay down pipe and preparing for Custom Code stage 2 tune
