  • Franks Golf GL (Red Rocket v2.0)

So i have decided to finally make a build thread on this forum after already starting one on other sites because i feel i will get better support and advice here.

It all started when i was about to turn 18 and my parents offered $3k for a first car. This led me searching high and low for a car with low km's yet in my price range. Many cars popped up, old BMW's, Subaru's and of course Vw's.

My mind was set though on this Golf i came across on Carsales. It was a GL model with a 2.0L and Red with only 116k km's on it. I went to go see it on a rainy day (which wasn't the best idea as later proven) made my mind up and bought it.

Here it is the day i bought it.

Looked alright in the wet, yet when i got it back home, imperfections appeared. Nothing major, just a spot of rust on the rear, some faded clear coat and a few dents and scratches.

Next thing to do was typical p-plater style, plasti dip emblems and wheels and black out taillights...

The joy of driving this was then cut down as i got caught speeding and was suspended for 3 months... During this time (2 months) i have since cleaned it weekly, drained and refilled the oil and fitted a new oil filter, buffed and polished it and have just ordered a set of JOM Coilovers which should arrive in the next week or so.

I will post more updates as soon as the coilovers arrive and will document the full installation.

So, because i have more time tonight I'm going to post some other things about the car...

About 3 days into owning the car i got tired of the ****ty four speaker stereo. I headed down to JB and bout an amp and sub combo from kicker for like $400 (im on a budget), used my old headunit from my mums car and got some pioneer 6.5" coaxial speakers to replace stock door ones. Installed it all and started to feel like i was out of fat pizza... Sub makes my rear vision mirror fall off, probably should get that checked out....

                    Any whooo heres some pics

Also did the old Joey mod for the headlights, makes them look a bit meaner

Lastly, got a bit bored and carried away on photoshop and mocked up what i would like my car to look like in the near future... hopefully. (mind my photoshop skills)

I just finished mine today aswell one I put it on I was wondering if I should have painted the grey Plastic part around and behind the reflector black as well it looks like you have done it exactly like I did.

Yeah same, when i put mine back on, i was like shieeeet, should've painted the outside bit. Oh well, it looks alright how it is, if i get time and can be bothered i might do the rest.

If you can be bothered, Chuck some sound deadening in the doors. Makes the car feel heaps more upmarket and the sound quality is great. I've just got a little slim Fusion Sub mounted on the back of the rear seats but it sounds sweet now. Competes with my dads Bower Wilkins surround sound system in his jag.
