Your best bet is either selling your car like you're trying to do or converting it to 16v, vr6 or 1.8t like my car. If you're any good with tools the conversion is quite easy and well worth it
Conversions just overwhelm me though, heard from many people that costs can keep rising well beyond what you intended to spend and before you know it, you won't even get half of what you spent on it when its time to sell. So i think selling on and buying maybe a 1.8t mk4, which would also make tuning alot easier!

Yeah, got advice from ray, i knew from the start the 8v is hard to squeeze power out of, but was hoping for more of a gain. Looks like my wishes were a bit far fetched!

My conversion stayed well under my budget. If you like the mk4 go for it, great cars. But if you like your mk3 more I'd honestly research and convert it, very rewarding. Plus in future you can change/replace all parts yourself and save on the massive labour charges.

Source a motor and run it on a haltech man. If you did the work yourself I recon you could have it running for 5-6 g1976 VW Golf "Swallowtail" - Rallye Red (long term resto)

Haven't updated in a while, well since the phase of wanting to sell my car ended because of 0 interest from anybody ahaha, i decided to start again with the upgrades and modifications...
Couple of weeks ago an add popped up on gumtree with a full set of VR6 seats for $150. Kind of glanced at it and forgot about it. Stumbled across it the other day and decided to grab them. A few texts back and forth i organised to pick them up today!
Long story short, MK3 Golfs have to be one of the most easiest cars to swap seats! One pin and the whole front seat slides back and out. Anyway, here are some pictures I took during the swap.
Passenger seat out...
Both VR6 Fronts in...
Before and after...
Next Update shouldn't be in too long, when I finally get my lower control arm bushings replaced and get a wheel alignment. Mods after that will be suitcase delete to make it sound beefier and hopefully, to repair the rust spots around the car!

Yeah such a good price and the seats are pretty much new except the drivers side bolstering is a tad worn.

Finally got around to replacing my worn as **** control arm bushings today! Pretty straight forward job... Remove like 12 bolts and both right and left sides are off.
Decided to upgrade to some Urethane bushings I found on ECS. The hardest part of the day was getting the new bushings in! Plenty of lube and swearing later I had both front and rear position replaced.
Heres a pic of the drivers side rear position bushing... Absolutely rooted
Also, does anyone know a good VW specialist around sydney? Need to get the front wheels properly aligned and the two places i've been to haven't been able to adjust the camber... Idiots.
Untill next time! Stay tuned, exhaust is next on the list!Last edited by frankeshh; 22-03-2014, 07:00 PM.
