They'll help keep those parts of the engine bay clean. If you're not worried about that, there shouldn't be an issue. I think they've been removed on both my mk3's, before I got my hands on them.Red 9N3 Polo GTI (sold)

No need to splice, get the connector and put your wires in the holes, they should be small enough.
Then go a bit down on both cables and tape them together, then tape it to the wall of the boot. This way it's still clean and easy to switchback if you change your mind.Past - '95 VW Golf MK3 VR6
